USB not working

Greetings from western New York from a Spyder newbie. I am 67 with about 50 years riding experience, now trying to forget the 2 wheel riding techniques and learn the 3 wheel idiosyncrasies. I recently purchased a 2017 F3 SE6 Limited and cannot get the USB to work with my USB stick. When I plug into the connector in the glove box I get a message that "device is not supported". I used this stick on my Harley for years without issue. Any suggestions ?

thanks johnv

You haven't provided enough info about your 'stick' and what's on it for us to give any meaningful feedback.

Also, which USB port on the Spyder are you trying to use?

Let's see...

:agree: most of the USB's are only power supplies for your devices. If you have information on the stick it will not read it If the USB is attatched to the sound system and to be used through that system then you need to check the stick or the manual on the sound system...:dontknow:

USB on F3T

Not sure what the difference is but when we converted from our Ultra Classic to the CanAm we had the same problem.
I bought newer thumb drives and re downloaded our MP3 files which play now on the F3T and her RT Limited.
You might try that and see if it works.

i think with my Android phone

worked with both the USB port and the aux in--to get sound through the radio on the 2017 F3T just using the two factory wires in the glove box

I am using the port in the glove box and the USB drive contains mp3 files.

I think that's only a charging port, not a data port.

Think about that for a minute.
If it was NOT a "data port", it would NOT report that the device is not supported.........right ??

Might fix the problem by copying everything off to a computer or phone, formatting the stick to FAT32 (probably what it wants) and then copy everything back to it.

Or get a new stick. They are really cheap these days.

Makes sense.

Where does that message appear?

I've gotten that same message (it's on the dash when you go through your audio options i.e. radio, usb, etc). Going to try a new USB stick myself in the future, in the meantime, I've been playing Pandora through my Iphone through that USB connection. (which is awesome until I am out of cell range)

I don't have a USB connection to the sound system on my RT, so I guess I was a little confused about the one on the F3. Thanks.

USB on RT

Pete, Our RT Limited has a USB connection in the rear case that we plug a USB stick / thumb drive into to play music files.
I thought all RTs had that option but maybe its just the Limited. Its all new to us but we area enjoying learning all the differences slowly but surely.

I use a USB stick with mp3's on it without any problems. The stick has to be formatted FAT32 for it to work properly. Pull the music off if you don't have a copy of it and reformat the stick to FAT32. Put the music back on and see it that helps. Good luck!

Mine both have a DIN connection in the trunk on the right side. I have to use adapter cables in order to have that be a USB connection.

You're saying your RTL has a USB connector, not the DIN?

Thanks for all of the feedback, much appreciated. I formatted my thumb drive from NTFS to Fat32 and it now works perfect. I am a happy camper.

thanks johnv
