USB Charger Plug

Has anyone installed this particular USB plug?

It would be ideal for me because you can get an SAE plug which would fit my Battery Tender installed plug. The problem is where to locate the bracket? I'm not particularly keen about drilling holes in the tupperware or the plastic on the dash.

Wonder others have installed it and, if so, where?

They provide a bracket for it, so maybe you could ziptie it around the handlebars running the wire up through the steering column? IDK.

Outlets

Well, I have a "regular" outlet on the left side, near the speaker cover. It will take a plug that has a USB slot or two in the top or a Gerbing 6 inch cable with an outlet for the charger for clothing on the other end. Gives me plenty of flexibility & my GPS is fed by a Garmin cable hard wired to 12 volts under the dash. I use the outlet in the trunk to charge my Nook or telephone with a USB plug also. Hope this helps. I also have two Gerbing outlets on the left side panel so Nancy and I can hook up our Gerbing stuff seperately. One was put in by the factory or dealer before delivery to hook the BUDS up and I installed the second to the battery directly to keep it simple and use 10 amp fuses. I use one of those to hook the battery charger up with a 6 inch Gerbing lead that's the old two pronged battery charger on one end and single Gerbing prong on the other end. Everything seems to work well and is fused seperately and life is good. Since day one, I've been hesitant to get too fancy with the electrical stuff on my RT due to the sophistication and "sensitivity" of the electrical system. Excuse my lack of memory for SAE, etc - I've installed a lot of stuff over the years, but always try to keep the electrical stuff within my low level of expertese and not set a vehicle on fire. So far, so good. :banghead:

I'd say "Great minds think alike," but I don't want to drag you down to my level. Mine is mounted on a ram mount on top of the clutch cover, not quite as clean as your setup.

Can't help you this time, Ken. We use Powerlet USB adapter cables plugged into our Powerlet outlets. We each have two outlets on the console.

When there is weather, I simply pull it out and close the plastic cover on the convenience outlet.

I intend on putting a power supply in the dash some where and use a USB plug in it. That way I can also use it for other acc. I am looking for a weather proof one now.

I bolted it up and ran the wire here

I put mine above the glove box between the buttons on mt RT-S. I removed the blank hole cover and made the hole a little bigger. It looks like it was factory installed. I will post some pictures when i get home from vacation.
