• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The gripe about the .45, was that it was tough to shoot accurately :shocked::hun:
It takes practice: nothing more!
They felt that a 9mm would give them more rounds in the magazine... :dontknow:
Why???
A handgun is never meant as an offensive weapon: they make rifles for that sort of fun!
A determined man who has been properly trained; is MORE than a match for a somewhat trained nimrod, with a lot of bullets to spray around without a plan... :banghead:

:agree: With a .45, it's all about stopping power. One hit with a .45, and that target is going down. with a 9mm, most likely not. And the bunk about the .45 not being accurate is just that - pure bunk. I was able to qualify Expert with the .45 when I was in the service. Oh, and what did tunnel rats carry when they went hunting? Not a 9mm.
 
I've never owner a Kimber .45; but I always loved their .22 rifles! :thumbup:
I've got my Colt built to the point where I'd hate to trade it in anyway... nojoke
Trigger, link, barrel bushing, safety... all have been tinkered with or replaced! :D
 
The original sales pitch to the people was we will save billions of dollars standardizing on one pistol for all branches of service. We got the 9mm. Then the FBI wanted the 10mm. The special forces went back to the 45. Most of the other branches went to the 40. So now we have more diversified arms than we had before. Every branch has it's own preference. Different mags, ammo, holsters, and repair parts, plus logistics as far as deployment. Seems whenever the Gov. tries to fix something or save money, it never happens.

I understood they went to 9mm and dropped the .45s is because they were standardizing with NATO calibers.
 
That was the idea... :dontknow:
But as Ron asaid: they ended up going in every other direction, with their caliber choices. :banghead:

After World War II, there were many, many studies done about how soldiers react in combat, etc. One thing that they found was that Americans ( and vice-versa the Germans ) could not use the enemies' weapons because they would not take the same ammo. Once you used up the ammo in a German rifle you could not get ammo to reload it. This is why NATO eventually went to a single type of ammo.
