• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Updates for 2018...

The items that seem to strike a common chord seem to be:
  • Better switches
  • Bigger storage areas
  • Better tire life
  • More power (I have a feeling there is nothing that this will ALWAYS be the case)
  • Less belt vibration, or a move to a driveshaft

Hey Bob

How about MORE GROUND CLEARANCE !!!! so we don't scrape going into the gas station

Since we're re-designing the RTs now; I'd like to see the following changes made:
1. A 2" longer wheelbase. This will allow BRP to expand the seating area for ride and passenger.
2. The above change will REALLY mess with the belt design... How about making the change to shaft-drive?
3. longer and deeper saddlebags. Give us more storage space.
4. Give us a top trunk that you can put two full-face helmets in.
5. How about an improved radio system
6.Is a built-in Navigation System too much to ask for?

However... don't hold your breath waiting for any of the changes noted here...

Ground clearance?

I guess I have not had an issue with this. As to belt drive....guessing this would add about $1500 to the prices....which are already fairly high IMO

My 2 cents worth!

For the cost of like an RT-Limited BRP needs to make some more things "Standard Equipment" such as - the 3rd brake light. There is NO reason why that isn't added for safety if nothing else as standard equipment. Trailer Hitch Standard on higher end RT's would be nice. Again spending 30k and then having to spend $500 more for a hitch if you want to go with a trailer down the road (ha-ha) I know, you got to charge for R&D but....some changes surely can be made. All they have to look at is what farkles people add most of and then build them into the future models. :D

I agree with all of the suggestions and would like to see them eliminate the stupid DESS system.

By the time you figure in the cost of a major re-design, AND the re-tooling costs: your estimate might just be awfully low...:dontknow:

They wouldn't do it JUST for the shaft drive change. It would be part of a major redesign. No reason to stick with old tech just because you have it now.

Redesign?

The F3 is of course a complete redesign from my earlier 2008 model, and I have learned the seat on an F3 is 26.6" whereas my previous model was 30.4". The nearly 4" reduction in seat height is IMO a huge improvement in the overall handling of the F3.

Having said all this, I would find it interesting if a further reduction in seat height could be accomplished in the next iteration of the F3.... the F4? And, maybe the shaft drive would allow this... of course when we look at cost, the F3 is still much more of a bargain than a Goldwing trike at $35,000 or more.

Interesting discussion.....

The only problem with dropping the seat height, is that you have to put your feet even further out in front of you. Some folks might find that uncomfortable.

well if we are dreaming ... let's dream big.

I would love to see an 8 speed transmission. Imagine running down your local expressway @ 70mph and pulling 2200RPM??? And I am sure there would be an increase in your gas mileage as well.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Has anyone installed the brp belt tensioner on an RT.using Doc Humphrey's after market parts to make it work. Thank you.

Yes and it works great although there is a very noticeable whine. There have also been some recent questions about long term reliability of the BRP tensioner. My belt vibration is completely eliminated, which at first tended to make me ride at higher speeds than expected. [emoji6]

updates for 2018

Each year I make a post of the top things I'd like to see for the next model year. From what I understand of the 2017, here's my list for Can-Am for 2018.

  1. Bluetooth - phone to stereo. Control of phone music from handlebar controls.
  2. Enhanced stereo playback control from handlebars. Currently if you select a new playlist it will only play in order of artists. A "Random" option would be nice.
  3. Backlit controls for high beam/low beam switch.
  4. Crisp feedback for turn signal and cruise control switches. They're mushy. It's easy to set a turn signal when you try to cancel one.
  5. Fix the clock. The clock runs fast on almost ALL Spyders.
  6. Fob instead of keys like Harley and Indian.
  7. Stiffer sway bar so we won't all be replacing ours.
  8. Built-in belt stabilization so we won't have the vibration at 65-75 mps.
  9. Built-in TPMS - it would be nice to have a display on the dash or GPS (Garmin has that option on some models).
  10. Brighter turn-signal indicator on dashboard. The current one is only useful at night.
  11. Better grips. Stock Spyder grips and skinny and feel like bicycle grips to me.
  12. A better rear-wheel air valve position so that you don't have to have 10 inch fingers with 8 joints to get to the valve stem.

Thoughts and additions?

Louder horn....I would like an air horn.

Thoughts and additions?

1. Easy access fuel door
2. Easier access to do an oil change without stripping half the Tupperware
3. Perimeter activated security alarm, standard or as an add on option
4. Instant start instead of reading the same safety warning year after year before start up

RT Additions

Only had mine for 2 weeks and have found the need to chime in on a few things.

1. Stereo volume control needs to increase/decrease using only one touch instead of repeatedly pushing it.

2. Bigger saddlebags.

3. Better color selection, I really like blue but that color in unavailable on the F3 Limited.

4. Brighter turn signal indicators. (I have already addressed that issue with amber LED's in the mirror housing, photos pending).

The Honda Gold Wing has foot warmers, which I would advocate for the RT.
The RT should have the option of a 3M nose mask.
Self sealing or run flat tires.
Lighted trunk vanity mirror (for the better half)

BRP would hafta think that suggestion just a little ironic!!

After all the complaints about hot feet (& other bits) on the RT's, followed by however many million $$ the mandated fix cost them, & then they get a suggestion requesting foot warmers!! :gaah:

:roflblack:
