• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Went up to Joliette, Quebec, Canada for the Spyder Mania weekend. Arrived on Thursday and spent some time riding around locating the event site. Around 6 p.m. I put my RT Limited back into the enclosed trailer and locked it up for the night. Trailer was parked almost directly in front of the door to the hotel lobby. Was completely shocked the next morning when I went to get the bike and noticed the trailer was not locked. The brackets holding the padlocks had been broken and my spyder was gone! Along with the bike they took my can-am leather jacket, my can-am first edition jacket (including the hangers), two rain suits, two helmets, two western hats, an ipod and a motorcycle cover. Don't know yet what the outcome will be, the Canadian police of course don't know if they will ever find it. Now it's a game of wait and see what the insurance company will cover and how long a wait it will be. Not a good trip at all and probably will never go back to Canada.

Damn, that is not good! What do cops say? Were there any cameras in the hotel parking lot that may show something of use? Sorry you are going through this!

Rnet (a member here) has told me horror stories of the same kinds of things except they were snowmobiles stolen right out of the trailers in Canada !!!!!

Sorry for your experience and hope the insurance will cover it quickly.

Not bashing Canada, but its been a huge issue for many yrs. Its very common durring snowmobile season. I have friends that have lost thier entire rigs. Hope your Ins comes thru for ya...

Well this sure takes a dump on what should have been a memorable time for other reasons! :gaah: Hoping for the best for you!

I was up in Kuujjuuaaq (Spelling is probably way wrong :opps:) once. Northern Quebec by Ungava Bay... To the folks up there; theft is an entirely foreign concept. They'll leave something where they're done with it, knowing that it'll be there when they need it again. I saw snowmobiles outside with open tool pouches on the seats.
On the porch of one of the stores, I even saw a beautiful set of caribou hide boots  They were nice enough that they even had me wondering what size they were! :opps: I recall asking somebody about them, and they told me that the owner had flown South to find work..."But he'll be back."

So the Native Inuit must know something more than the rest of us...

My G*d! That's Awful.

NJErnie.....

I was shocked to read about this! I'm glad that you and your wife are safe but that's a terrible thing to have happen. I hope that the insurance company will come through for you and provide a complete replacement.

As a side issue, if the key wasn't in it, how do thieves start stolen bikes? The same way they start a car? I assumed -- probably wrongly -- that the computerized key prevented keyless starting.

If there is anything I can do for you, don't hesitate to contact me. I'm really sorry.

OMG! Sorry this happened and you are safe. I would be devastated. Please keep us posted as to the outcome. And I too would like to know how they moved that spyder.

I'm really ashamed of my fellow Quebecers. It sucks bigtime for you.

All too common in Quebec though. The thieves target out of province & US vehicles all the time when they are parked overnight.

Seems like a perfectly legit insurance claim. Hope it's dealt with speedily.

I would suggest just like Canadian License plates in the US scream "visitor" your US plates do the same here. Having said that if I was inclined to borrow a motorcycle or a snowmobile the visiting US plate would attract me. You report it missing then you go home and the police department receives little to no heat from you or the insurance industry because you are a visitor. It for sure sucks when stuff goes missing, however like others have stated you and your companions are safe and as important as a Spyder sounds it really is replaceable.

I understand to some degree your reluctance to come back as there are some US cities I would never visit unless forced to for my employment. The murder rate is just to darn high. Why risk it.........Chicago maybe as an example? A city the size of Toronto but a murder total approximately 10 times as high currently? Scary sheet man sorry to hear about your visit hopefully your insurance company looks after you, afterall you do pay premiums in case it does go missing?

Its called repect Bob, nobody respects anybodies stuff anymore. Look what little value is placed on human life anymore, never mind a non breathing entity? They will "rob' you blind as soon as you turn your back, and then perhaps stick a knife in it.

The key was in an IPS and was left in the bike, apparently whoever took it was familiar with the IPS and also the sequence necessary for starting the Spyder. Never thought to take the key out being it was locked in an enclosed trailer. But I guess if someone really wants to steal something they will find a way. Was told I would hear from a claims adjuster within two working days.

I live near Canada and travel there often. It's a wonderful country with wonderful people and I have many friends there. Crime there overall is less prevalent than in the US in my experience. But I must say this, the criminal element that does exist there is amazingly crafty, often professional, and very, very bold. They will perpetrate elaborate or brash crimes you wouldn't necessarily expect in the US. This occurrence is a typical example, a Spyder securely locked in an enclosed trailer in plain sight directly in front of a hotel lobby. I don't think it could have realistically been protected any better and yet they still pulled it off. Canadian criminals never cease to amaze me. Never underestimate them.

Wow....sorry to hear this ernie!

I have heard numerous stories like this with snowmobiles....including one from a customer of mine. He had a brand new Ford F350 with a 30ft very high end trailer with 6 snowmobiles in there (4 of them where brand new). They were parked in the secure fenced in area at the hotel. They woke up after the 2nd morning and the truck and trailer gone. Was like a $100k worth of equipment. The police there said this is common that they see this and never get the stuff back. One reason why I don't go to Canada anymore....so sad!

Makes me wonder how many of the criminals involved are employed by the hotels. Makes so they can always know where to get the best pickings.

Perhaps our criminals are a little more crafty and brazen because we (Canadians) for the most part lack a "property owner equalizer" that is readily available in the US? Its called a gun...........;)

Feel really bad that you have to go thru that mess!! Hope your insurance covers all of the loss. If the trailer was hooked to your tow vehicle you may have coverage from your tow vehicle insurance also. Might be something to look into if needed.

Doesn't matter what country you are in, it still happens and still feels the same - bad.
