• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Gas door installed

I posted some photos a week or so ago of the gas door I had installed. Here are some better photos and it works great. I had the stock seat lumbar moved back 2", added the Utopia back rest, added heat and the gas door.

That is a stock seat but well done though. Not an Ultimate seat

Adding an Ultimate Fuel Door After the Seat is Manufactured

Good morning, everyone. I'm going to try and address all these issues in one fell swoop. To start, two things for clarification purposes so we are all on the same page. Fuel doors are only available on our RT seats, they are not available for RS or ST. The seat that we build for the RT uses our manufactured foam reinforced fiberglass pan. The RS/ST seat that we manufacture currently is being built on the OEM seat pan.

What would Ultimate charge to put one in?

I called them first. No Way will they do it nor sell me the parts not sure why if I am willing to ship it to them but it is what it is.

Magdave - Due to the way that the seat is assembled (high amount of special adhesive holding foam to pan and same special adhesive holding cover to foam) - 'disassembling' the seat in order to 'add' a fuel door would almost certainly ruin the cover and foam. If there was to extend after sales service to accommodate a customer request like this (short of new foam, a new cover and the labor involved with tearing the seat completely down to the pan to rebuild it), we would most certainly do it.

I have the ultimate with a fuel door, but I can't get my hand in it with enough leverage to get the cap off. I still raise the seat to fill up.

Omcge - Please make sure that you are using your left hand to get the gas cap unscrewed and out. It's something that we tend not to think about, but as a right handed guy myself, I had to adjust to using my left hand (as the door hinges on the left hand side, which makes it cumbersome to use your right hand in to get the job done).

I asked at the Ultimate booth at Spyderfest this year, and was told by the woman there that they did not sell the door by itself and that the stock seat pan wasn't thick enough to support it anyway. I wasn't real happy with her attitude when she answered ( I was stupid for even asking) so I just walked away. I haven't but I still think it is possible.

I got the same answer and same impression about her.:dontknow: So much for support AFTER the sale I guess. I highly doubt they use different pans would like to hear some confirmation from them here on the site.

2Paw and Magdave - Last, but certainly not least - sorry to hear that you received a response to your question that came off as 'less than favorable.' It's obviously never our intention to rub you the wrong way. No excuses to be offered, just being honest. That being said, the information you received is correct, we feel that OEM RT pan does not have the needed amount of support in order to get clamped down on by the fuel door that WE offer. As you can see, others on here have come up with some great solutions - but it's not something that feel comfortable offering.

Any questions or concerns, we try to keep up with you guys on here, but if we miss you, or aren't responding quickly enough, don't hesitate to call us toll free at 877-672-0288.

Ride safe,

Dave

Thanks for the clarification. Love the seat even without the door actually might like it less with it since I squeeze my knees in that area and appreciate the extra thick padding.

I like that! Huge opening, looks factory. Care to start a thread showing step by step for the rest of us DIYers?

Then you do not want the door. I do not squeeze the seat so I had no issues, but my wife does and she did not like the door. even with the black door the lock is chrome and she burned her leg on it from the hot sun.
