• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Twin -turbine F4 Phantom RC Model

Awesome..!!

come a long way from the baby bee U controls we started out with. Never could afford the RC's back then..thanks for the view..:2thumbs: could keep you entertained for hours...

Its cheaper to watch videos, than invest in one of these. I do have a friend who is looking into one. He flew the F-4's as a Marine Corp pilot, ending his career with the F/A-18.

F-4

OMG...I'm afraid to even think what He has invested in that.....I'd be terrified to take off the ground , knowing it would have to landed :gaah:......Mike

Yes, OMG! Toys have come a long way. I also remember the U-Control models. I would buy a balsa stick version for about $10. Spend a couple weeks building it, add a .049 engine, fresh battery, a quart of fuel (if I had that much money), otherwise it was a pint or a half pint.

I crashed a lot of the planes but it was an ongoing saga for a couple years. Some great memories. My paper route provided me some of the "good stuff."

I also wonder how much one of those jets cost? I am guessing that since I have to ask, I probably could not afford it. :roflblack:

Sweet. And in the markings of the Jolly Rogers. That squadron is no longer active. The Phantom is my favorite fighter.

I have dabbled in RC and would take my kids to see the local RC Jet shows. They are really neat and from a forced perspective standpoint, they look like the real thing in the sky. Look to see if there is a RC Jet show near you and don't miss it!

A really beautiful model....Oh that I had the skills to build and fly one. Thinking about it.....
I could probably build one but flying it is a whole different ball game!
Here's a couple of clips, the first shows the skills of some of these RC pilots:

and the second features the 2013 RC jet speed record holder at 440mph.....what's that Mach 0.6?

But then of course this can happen :

Having worked on the D model for several years in the early 70's, this flight was just about to scale. The only difference was it didn't try to fall out of the sky when making turns to go around the pattern :) As for it coming back with the rear canopy missing, I caught my bird like that in Zaragoza Spain after the pilot got a little too target fixated during a strafing run. The GIB said bye when they almost bellied in during pullout and took a rescue chopper back to the base. His stop watch was still hanging from the Command Ejection Select switch! Forms still tucked into the right side panels. I was amazed. The pilot wouldn't open his canopy until I verified that his seat initiator on the top was still in normal position and wouldn't fire him out when he opened it. He still was reluctant, but I hit the outside button and finally got him to shut down the engines so we could tow it back to the ramp. Fun times!

About the only thing that would have been any cooler would have been to see the drag chute deploy on rollout after landing!
