• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Turning radius

I was thinking about the large turning circle of the spyder, and wondered if anyone has had a problem getting their MC endorsement because of it?

I have my license and took the Basic rider course in Pa. to get my endorsement. I have to wonder if I could have done a lot of the maneuvers on the spyder-Figure 8, swerve, cones and so on.

I was with my riding group yesterday and they loved th espyder but shook their head when I had to do a U-tun in an alley -large alley, and saw that I could not do it without doing a "broken-U" rather than a simple U-turn as they did.

Most states will let you opt out of tests like that which obviously cannot be completed on a trike.

Iv'e had my M/C licence for 40+ years, so i don't know how they test the Spyder? I've been told in Jersey you can do a broken U to pass.
But who knows, sometimes the left hand doesn't know what right hand is
doing down at Motor V.:yikes: If your worried there are places that for a fee
will meet you at the test site with a 50 cc auto trans you take the test on [full licence] Good Luck with the test.

I remember someone in IL running into that issue, but when reading the fine print, the rules only stated they couldn't put a foot down while doing it --- didn't say anything at all about backing up so they passed :D.

Thats funny right there!!!!

Yes

A member on an other forum from Pa is very flustered-

I did take the test on the Spyder & I do believe I had them baffled. They treated me as if I was in a cage, parallel park, turning with signals ect.
Nothing to do at all with the normal 2 wheel test, which I would go practice when DMV was closed when I had my 650L.
I believe I was treated right, I think this member is getting the shaft.

Hahaha ... that's a good one. Not often you can stick one back at them.

Utah Driver's License Division is pretty Spyder friendly. They modify the tests based on the size and type of the motorcycle. They allow for a larger turning radius on large engined bikes and trikes. The S turns had the cones further apart and they are more forgiving of hit cones. There was a Can-am dealer two doors down from one of the driver's license test centers. I was told that they helped with the test modifications.

The only real downside to taking the test on a Spyder is that they are supposed to put a three wheel restriction on the motorcycle endorsement. That apparently depends on the mood of the officer. My license has the full unrestricted motorcycle endorsement but my friend who took his test 30 minutes after I did on the same Spyder has the three wheel restriction.

In Sweet Home Alabama I did not even take a test or a test drive for a motorcycle. They just put on the back that I was good to go. They could tell right away that I was bad to bone.
