Tucson Bound

Got a call the night before last, from my brother in Yuma, Arizona. He told me that if I wanted to use his place in Tucson for a few weeks, I was more than welcome to come down and stay.
One stipulation......I've got to bring the Spyder............Hey, no problem.....I just have to wake it up from it's 4 1/2 month hibernation. Since it's so cold around here, I'll haul it down in the trailer,.....except that the trailer is under at least,.... 2 to 3 1/2 foot of snow. :gaah:
Now I'm not one for passing up a deal like this, since we haven't had 40 degree weather here since Dec.1st., so out to the back yard I go, to start what turns out to be several hours of moving snow.

"A BABY IS BORN" I think it just might move, if I get all the weight off it.

Once out, and the snow removed from the bed, now I have 3/4" of ice on the floor of the trailer. After chipping ice for awhile, I hauled it to the car wash, which took care of the ice real quick.

I'll be loading the Spyder tomorrow, and packing our "summer clothes", and getting final errands talking care of, before heading south.
Hope to meet some Tucson ryders like DryHeat, jimmykjimmy, jrl.spyder, and any others in the area.
Also hope to get up to Vegas on the way home......

I would, but I have this problem...it seems I have to go to work every day just to support my Spyder addiction! :yikes:

Same here. plus mine is still in the shop for dps:gaah:

nice pics of the snow!
I love Tucson- I grew up in AZ and spent a lot of time in Tucson.
You may want to bring some warm clothes as well if you take a shortbut beautiful ryde to Mt. Lemon....

Weather in the hi 60's/lo 70's, rain expected Sunday/monday, but it seldom lasts that long. It does get cold as soon as the sun goes down (around 40 at night), so don't forget to pack some of those winter clothes! Give me a call when you get to town. (520-490-6946 cell)
BTW, Mt Lemmon is under 5' of snow and they are skiing up there... not advisable for Spyder! Save that one for a summer ride.:2thumbs:

Called Big Arm when I saw his post. Jennifer and I are going to take a ride to Tucson to meet up with him sometime. Met him in MN on our journey. It will be good seeing him again and meeting the Mrs.

Tucson connection

When will you be getting here, and where will you be staying. I live on the Northwest side (Oro Valley) and am ready to ride. Would love to do my favorite "around the Globe" ride, preceded by breakfast at my favorite diner...Sunny Side Up in Catalina.

I got the trailer loaded up and finally started out Fri. morning. We decided to head straight south this time on I-29 and I-35. We pretty much ran out of the snow in Topeka, KS and hit 64 degrees by the time we were in Wichita. Spent the night in Guthrie, OK, just north of Oklahoma City. Found the town of Guthrie full of cowboys there for the rodeo.

Sat. morning we headed down to I-40then west thru OK TX and NM. Had a beautiful day to drive. Stopped in Santa Rosa, NM to take a pic on old Route 66. then on to Moriarty, NM where we spent our second night.
Sun. We'll head south on I-25 then west on I-10 to Tucson.
Tom in NM........where are you ???

South of Tucson

If you decide to do any rides to points south of Tucson give me a holler-I'm always up for a ride. I'm down in Bisbee (a good destination itself) and would be glad to show you around.

Well, arrived in Tucson a week ago today, and am sure enjoying this weather. Been riding the Spyder as much as possible.
I met my brother up on I-10 last Thursday near Arizona City, and we rode back to Tucson, taking the scenic route, via Saguaro National Park.

Friday he and I rode 190 mile round trip to Tombstone, Az. via the back roads. (Sorry srarndt, that I didn't see your post in time to call you.) We had a great time in Tombstone walking the streets and re-learning our history. Places like the OK Corral, Boothill, etc. The weather was a perfect day for a great ride. On the way back, we did pass a blue spyder, going in the opposite direction. Just got the wave.

Saturday, I did get to meet up with dryheat and jrl.spyder. I will try to post tomorrow our adventure and a few pics.

If anyone needs a little extra trunk space, I still have this here in the Tucson area left over from my spyder. I recommend local pick-up, nobody has wanted to deal with it's shipping cost.

Saturday morning I got a call from dryheat, saying that he and jrl.spyder were heading down toward Tucson, and would I be interested in joining them for a ride. I met them and a short time later, we headed west to three points, then south to Arivaca.
We couldn't have asked for a nicer day. When we arrived in Arivaca, there was a local chillie cook-off in progress and jrl.spyder had to test the local flavor, while dryheat and I tryed the bbq pork. Hung around town about an hr. doing the regular Q & A with the locals.

I, dryheat and jrl.spyder....l. to r.
After leaving town, we headed east toward Amado for another nice ride across the desert. There jrl.spyder picked up a boarder patrol for several miles on his tail.

We arrived in Amado at the "Longhorn Grill" where there were several bikers just leaving, so we had another photo opt. here before heading back to Tucson.

I'd like to thank both dryheat and jrl.spyder for a wonderful day and it was a pleasure meeting you both. Arizona hospitality is alive and well here!!! Thanks again !!!

I love it out here.

Larry, sorry I didn't get your message in time to meet up with you, but it was great talking to you.

I hope we have a chance to meet in person before you go back.

Yes, we have had some great riding weather out here - and of course, there is always the great views and food. Glad you are having a great time.

Tom

Yesterday I took a nice ride across town to the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, here in Tucson. This week-end they were hosting the Thunderbirds.
Another beautiful day here in Tucson with temps in the upper 70's.
I'm sure going to miss this weather when we head for home.
