• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Trying to decide!

New here as well

I just sold my HD Ultra Clasic and bought a 2011 RT. I also had a knee replacement and as of now I only have a few short rides on my spyder. I'm very happy with my choice.

Trying

Wow, what a response, and so fast.

I just got off the phone with the Can-Am dealer, he is offering me a 2011 RT LTD for $2200 less then the 2012 RT LTD, Is there a difference between the 2012 and 2011, also I he will do me a deal for a 2010 RT622 trailer for $1000 less then a 2012 trailer, is there a difference here?

Thanks for your help!
Dave

I traded my 2005 GL1800 and my 2011 V-Strom in on my 2012 RT Limited. I wanted white and there was not one within a reasonable distance of the selling dealer. I went with the 2012, to my knowledge there isn't any difference. There may be a later computer update in the 2012 or some minor behind the scenes improvements that I am unaware of but for the savings i would go with the 2011.

I rode my Wing hard and my fuel mileage was 38MPG, the Spyder on non-ethanol may get you 32-34. I am happy to be off two wheels and I would never consider a conventional trike for safety reasons alone.

Buy the Roadster, get the extended warranty so you will be covered for 5 years... I even bought 3 years maintenance.

The 2011 and 2012 LTDs are close to the same. About the biggest change I can think of is the color of the display. There may be some addition production line improvements that are not well documented for 2012. I would not hesitate to buy a 2011 if the price was right.

The 2010 trailers did not have the water management kit, which is available as a retrofit. They had 5-wire lighting. The LTD had not been introduced, so they are not available in white. The 2011/2012 RT-622 has the water kit. It hass 4-wire ligghting, and is available in white to match the LTD.

I rode a Goldwing trike (GL1500) for 8 years before getting my RS. I weighed 1250lbs without me on it. I got 35 mpg with it and also get 35 mpg from my RS. The RS is a lot lighter weight tho. I doubt you'll do much better with any 3 wheeler. Just a fact of life. Now, I search out the twisty roads when I ride. If you want to go touring the GW is hard to beat. I've never ridden an RT so I can't speak to that.

Try them all and don't rush. The shopping can be fun too.

Reference: Trying to Decide

I too have been trying to decide on the Spyder RT Limited. I'm going in for a total left knee replacement March 5th. I currently have a 2008 Goldwing with Navi, heated seats & grips and ABS. I also have a 2003 100th Anniversary Harley Fatboy. I was having the Goldwing checked for a possible brake recall and was wondering around the showroom when I came upon the RT Limited. I was blown away by the styling and then got the rundown on features by sales staff. I have decided that I am going to put my current bikes on sale after my surgery and move on to the RT Limited. Can't wait.
I have been reading and enjoying all the different posts and videos available on Spyderlovers.com.

I too was looking at a total knee replacement and my Royal Star Venture was getting hard to back into the garage. I looked at the Goldwing trike several times but one test ride and I was sold on the Spyder. Bought my RT at the end of July last year and had the knee replacement 1 November. Already have over 4000 miles on the RT and itching for the ryding season with my new knee. Having said that the best advise you have received is to test ride all options and make a calculated decision based on all the things you want in a three wheeler.

Most riders get around 28-30 mpg, which gives 130-140 miles before the low fuel light comes on. At that point you have 30-50 miles of wiggle room. Pulling a trailer or riding in the mountains or at higher speeds will give you less. I have had a low fuel light in as few as 80 miles, or as much as 150...although I seldom run down all the way to the fuel light. I figure 25 mpg and 5 usable gallons, just to be safe, which means I fill every 100-125 miles or so, although I have gone over 140. Like learning to ride the Spyder, it takes some adjustments to accept having half the range, but it is worth the effort.

I triked my '02 Gold Wing in '05 due to bad knee. I love this trike...31-33 mpg and little to no maintienance other than oil and filter. I bought BR1 in March of '11 because I liked the looks of it and wanted another ride. I love BR1 and I get 30 mpg consistantly, with more maintenance required than the Wing. I like both...different rides, but great rides! I never know which I will ride until I get to my barn and listen to each tell me why they should go today rather than the other. Love 'em.

I gas both around 150 miles as my bladder is full before my gas tank is empty.

Hey, you might shop around and see what triking your GW would cost vs. a Spyder. The best trike kit with many bells an whistles would be less than $15,000. I paid $9,200 total in '95 but I know prices are up.

Tri-Glide or Spyder ?

:clap:Hello, and welcome! Back in 2009, hubby bought the HD Tri-Glide. About a year went by, and I finally got the courage to try learning how to drive it. Unfortunately, with the 6 gallon tank, I can reach the brake and shifter to learn, but it's no good for a long distance. After bending the ear of a good friend who has a 2008 RS, I went to my local Can Am, and sat on a 2010 RT-A. Even though the gas tank is actually bigger at 6.6 gallons, thanks to its' design, I am completely comfortable on my Smurfette! What my dirty rat of a husband didn't mention was the option of the SE-5 semi automatic transmission! I knew instantly that there wouldn't have to be a single mod done to any of the controls in order to fit me perfectly! I would suggest test-driving both the HD and the Spyder, and go with whichever fits you best. We both ride together every chance we get, and we sure do attract a :cus: of attention wherever we go! If there is anything I can help you with, or if you'd like to bend my ear for a while, please feel free to PM me. Ryde Safe!!! P.S. Yes, we are a Tri-Glider and Spyder blended family!!!

X Goldwing Guy

I too am a X goldwing man, I have owned 5 goldwings over the years and I just bought a 2012 RTS and really like it a lot. Oh by the way I test drove a Harley Tri Glide. No thank you. I did not like it at all. The next day I bought the RTS. I only have a 150 miles on it so far. But as long as it does not give me any problems, I think I have bought my last bike. These things are really high tech and to do any maintenance on them requires a lot of work. and quite expensive if you have the dealer do it. If this one don't work out I am going to give it up. Don't really want to do that. But I am glad I went this route. The RTS is a nice machine.
