Trying to decide about Ultimate seat for my new 2014 Spyder RTS to be coming soon

Wanted to get some input about the Ultimate seat on the Spyder RT's. I previously have had a corbin on my GS/RSS but went over to a custom seat by Kontour designs. I did sit on the Ultimate seat at Spyderfest last year and really liked.

The other question is if I should get the fuel door or not. I am not sure if I like the looks of it and quite honestly don't carry a passenger often so just not sure if I should get it.

Thanks,

Shawn

Here's the thing..!!

it's your tush and if you liked the feel of the seat you tried you should go for it. The gas door is also a question of if it's worth it. I for one would have no use for it cause even though we ryde double up most of the time we always get off stretch and walk around when getting gas. Good luck with choosing it is hard at the cost of these custom seats...

Shawn,
I was sorta hoping that the seat on the 2014 and beyond would be good enuf that one wouldn't have to have an after market seat. But I can tell you that I got an Ultimate for my 2013 RT and I am thoroughly pleased. I, too, opted for NO fuel door, mostly for aesthetics, and have not been disappointed in my choice. Also, the customer service I received was first rate. Good luck on your choices!

If you tend to lead the rear seating area with "stuff"...
Having the fuel door will keep you from having to repostion everything when it comes time to pop the seat for re-fueling...

I now have one seat with the gas door and one without. I do not see the gas door as a necessity in my case. I have to get off the :spyder2: frequently, so raising the seat is no problem. I do not carry passengers or gear on the back portion of the seat.

I plan on starting with the OEM seat this next go around and give it a thorough test before opting for an aftermarket seat. I am going to add the BRP backrest though. The BRP comfort seat works well for us on the 2011.

I have not seen it mentioned yet--but does anyone know the difference between the backrests for the OEM and the BRP comfort seats for 2014? They seem to be different part numbers--but did they make them non-compatible?

Since they are each $500 that's an interesting proposition for some of us.

Good Question. :dontknow: Perhaps the different seat pans, required a revision to the mounting hardwware for them? :dontknow:

Pass on the fuel door, looks tacky. Corbin is the only fuel door that fits right and is made to look seamless in their seat. The fuel door that Ultimate has is an afterthought and just don't look good on the seat. That's just my 2 cents, I have an Ultimate seat on my 13 and love it!

I am getting an RTS and I really like the new two toned seat on that model. I rode a 2014 with the backrest and really liked it when I was wearing a light jacket but when I had on all my cold weather gear it was a little confining. I really would like to get the Comfort Seat with a backrest but the kicker for me is that the Comfort Seat does not seem to be available in the two tone. :( Neither is the driver backrest :(

I know that Utopia has always had a different part number for the Comfort seat backrest so they may not be interchangeable.

Thanks for everyone's input so far. Has anyone went from a BRP comfort seat to the Ultimate Seat? I am 6'4" so thinking their tallboy seat will be more comfortable anyways.... I do like the looks of the 2 tone seat as well but comfort is more important than that.

The other thing about the BRP backrest is that it isn't adjustable which is crazy!

I do 700+ mile days and want comfort!

I had the BRP Comfort seat with the Utopia backrest on my 2011 RT. It was pretty nice but the backrest was not removable and there was not much room for a passenger. I went with the Ultimate Tall Boy with the backrest and it is comfortable with good support. I like the quality and comfort so much that I put and Ultimate seat on my Vulcan 900 as well.

Bill,

Thanks much as that is what I was looking for. And with the Ultimate Seat it is easy to remove the backrest I assume from underneath the seat? Do I need to replace the stock passenger backrest? I haven't heard any complaints from people about the passenger backrest but thought I would ask the question before I place my order tomorrow.

Thanks,

Shawn

I had the comfort seat on my '12 RT Limited but opted to go with the Ultimate seat after sitting on a couple. I had the seat trimmed in white Ostrich to match my Pearl White Spyder and it looks good. I went with the gas door in chrome but if I had to do it again I would not go the chrome route. It gets very hot on warm days. As far as comfort... the Comfort seat was a 90 minute seat. The Ultimate is a five hour seat. I am just over six feet and weight 230 so the regular Ultimate works for me.

Ultimate seat

Just my 2 cents....the Stock Seat on the 14 with the BRP Backrest works for me, 800 plus for a seat is overkill (for me) Just saying, good luck on your decision

Ultimatly it is up to you

I have the Ultimate seat with backrest(the best part) and a fuel door everything about it is top rate as far as I'm concerned
it feels good and I can ride ride ride for hours and it is good.
If I were getting another spyder the ultimate with backrest would be my choice.:yes::yes:

From what I have heard is that the BRP backrest isnt adjustable. Having a utopia and corbin backrest previously that where both adjustable it is hard to go to a non-adjustable backrest.

The BRP comfort seat is $599 and the backrest is $449. I can get the Ultimate Tallboy seat with backrest for $750......

ultimate seat

I have the ultimate seat on my RT. It was comfortable from the get go....no break in required. I also have the fuel door..(blacK) I don't use it very often...the problem I have with it is that when left in the sun for any appreciable time..the rim and rivettes get really hot and it is uncomfortable to ryde for a while

But I highly recommend this seat!:thumbup:

I have the ultimate on my RT and Love the Support from the hump and the comfort of sitting in a seat- Not on one.

Only problem is the Post that latches to the lock got very loose and now just swivels around and will Not Lock the seat anymore.
So now I don,t have to unlock the seat- One less thing to worry about?
