There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Trunk Latch Spring

Here's hubby's version of the trunk latch spring. It works like a charm!

The spring we used is about 2 inches long. He drilled a hole just big enough for the screw, slid a small washer in the bottom loop (?) of the spring, and put a nut on the back side. When it closes, the spring goes right over the bolt on the latching mechanism, which keeps it from sliding around.

Now I can turn the key and the trunk lid pops open. It takes just a small push to close it.

Pictures, and if I can figure out how to link to it, a video of it in action.

Very nice. I am going to keep this in mind if my spring over latch pin quits working for me.

EDIT: Wow. After watching the video I have to say that is one hefty spring. Mine just lifts the lid enough to clear the latch pin and it moves the tunk lid so slightly that you can't really see it open. Yours 'jumps' open.

Best $0.75 mod yet. $0.75 for a 2" spring, 5 minute install. BRP take notice. If you are symetrically challenged, put one on each side.

Great idea!

Is the trunk still water-tight?

I'm not challenging your mod (I like it), rather, there have been other posts where the trunk leaked. Just curious if the spring tension creates a slight gap at the seal where the trunk closes.

The latch post should be able to be adjusted to prevent any leaks at the gasket. Some Spyder leaks were actually at the instruction book pocket, where they neglected to seal it with silicone.

Rode today for the first time with it and it is absolutely a must. What a difference to turn the key while still in the seat and walk around to put stuff in the trunk.

This is my second reply-----I don't think the first came thru????
So I went up to sears bought a 2 inch spring-----and its done------a minor aggravation gone.
Thank You

I actually designed this a few months ago, but have not installed it. Now I wondering if my spring would be strong enough.

Can you provide a part#

I finally took the time to do this today. Found a nifty cone shaped spring in my spring drawer. Worked perfectly. Nancy was very pleased. Handy as a shirt pocket!

I did mine this weekend. It took me a minute to find a hardware store that had the right spring. Then I had to find the right nut and bolt. Its so much easier to just unlock it and then open the trunk. My hands are usually full so I cant use both at once to open the trunk.:2thumbs:
