Trike or quad... apparently Hannigan has either one

Driving this morning by the Trikes by Rice shop, here in Loganville and spotted this rig outside.

It is a quad cycle by Hannigan. On a 2008 Honda Gold Wing they added both front and rear kits from Hannigan. The two kits run about $17,000 and the price they have on this unit is $31,000.

I asked if it is licensed as a motorcycle and was told it is in Georgia but didn't get an answer about other states. Apparently you can't just buy the front kit, but have to have both.

He was/is an engineer and originally did the front Trike thing but felt it was quite stable enough for the MASS market....I'm sure there were Legal Liabilities involved here and He just didn't want deal with them so He scrapped the Trike and went with the Quad concept........Mike :thumbup:

I think this is a fairly new offering from Hannigan (the front part has been available for a couple years and rear part for a lot longer) and they will still be offering the conventional trike. In Texas, I am pretty sure four wheels = car and the Hannigan 4 wheeler would not pass mustard as it doesn't conform to a lot of the Federal safety rules for cars. I am not sure how long Texas has talked about a saddle for a driver/passenger but I it may be that the saddle part was written into the definition so they could flunk the other BRP trike... I think it is called a T-Rex? Anyway, it will be interesting to see where the four wheel Hannigan CAN be registered and if it is registered if the thing is driven to a state that doesn't recognize it as a four wheel motorcycle what the travel implications are.

• Motorcycle―A motorized vehicle with a saddle for the rider and operating on a maximum of three wheels. This does not include tractors. Motorcycles are considered the same as passenger vehicles when it comes to registration, titling, and insurance requirements.
• Moped―A motorized cycle that does not operate faster than 30 MPH and has less than 2 hp and less than 50 ccs displacement.
• Motor-driven cycle―A motorcycle with engine displacement of less than 250 cc.

hannigan makes a nice setup but it is about 10 to 12 k more than a fully dressed rt lid.

That actually looks cool. I just wonder how much the extra weight pulls down the performance, not to mention Gas mileage. I'll stick to the Spider, dont need to get stopped in some backwater place for not wearing seatbelts.

I have a Hannigan conversion on my Harley Ultra which was done there.

It is an awesome ride and looks great too, but initially I did have some trouble which was resolved out of my own pocket.

Coach Rice is your best friend until an issue arises, then he won't call you back for anything.

Sorry you had problems. Jack 'coach' Rice died of cancer two year's ago.

His younger brother now runs the operation and he is to Jack as oil is to water. Jack inherited all the manners and taste in the family... the brother.... not so much.
