TricLED Vent Lights - anyone have issues with them?

As the title states, has anyone had any issues with the product below?

https://www.slingmods.com/can-am-sp...-light-strips-turn-signals?search=vent lights

I have an active case with SlingMod's customer support, as my order does not appear to fit my Spyder. The LED's are between 1.5 to 2 inches too long to fit in the vent opening. I assume they should fit completely under/in the vent and not have the end sticking out, but I don't see how the set I got will fit any other way??

The LED strips are about 12 1/4" long and the available space is about 10". Anyone have any experience with this product?

I figured out a very simple circuit I could make for less than $5 if I had LED's, but unfortunately, I had already ordered the kit and feel I may get stuck with it. It may turn into a $100 mistake. :(

Your post states that you bought a product for a 15 to 18 F3, but your sig line states that you have a 2023. What's up with that??

:agree::popcorn:

I was hoping not to have to go into this.... lol

The changes from 2015 to 2023 were very minor. Regarding this kit specifically, the panels this kit mounts to did not change from 2015-2023. I'd almost be willing to bet they are even the same part number.

SlingMods markets this kit for the 15-18 model years solely on the fact that those years had the easy to access wires (as shown in the video) in the side mirrors to tap into. Obviously the 2023 has turn signals and as such also has the wiring needed to make this kit functional, just not as plug and play. The kit works electrically. I just find that the included LED strips are too big/long to fit properly ~ hence my issue.

It's funny that you are asking the same questions that SlingMods customer support did, and I had to inform them of all that ^ as well. :) I was surprised they were not aware of this. I was also told the kit was for 2018 only and I had to correct them as well. I also further provided them with the image of the package I received which clearly states "2019+ Current". Frankly, they seem to be nice people, but maybe not as knowledgeable as I would have hoped.

I hope this clears up the issue as to why I bought a (supposed) 2018 product.

The sad thing is that I have had a hell of a time with this order. SlingMods is in California. I am in Ohio. I ordered on the 26th of June with an estimated delivery time of 4-5 days. I was surprised to find my order went to Honolulu Hawaii, and I didn't get it until July 8th ~ only then to find I have this issue! I want to get this Spyder on the road, I bought it last year and so far, have only put 20 miles on it - the ride home from the dealer. It went straight into the garage until a month ago when I started installing my accessories. I've since come to find that there's a recall outstanding on it AND it was sold to me with the drive belt improperly aligned. This raises so many other questions regarding the dealer and how competent they were when checking out my bike after purchase, and how they are going to handle the fact that I want the belt properly adjusted, as well as the alignment checked - but that's a subject for another thread...

So, back to my original question; anyone install this kit and notice the LED's are too long?

Hi broderp,

I have the same LED's that you have (& I have a 2023 F3 LTD Special Series) and I did not have any problems installing mine from the same part # kit that you say you got. I also installed them myself.

Any chance you can post a fairly clear picture of how your lights sit in the vent? Thanks!

Here's the short videos I sent SlingMods showing the issue I have. As I look at them again, I'm now also thinking that the LEDs would have to be installed on the curved part of the panel. The LED rubber-like housing may be fine with bending in that way, but the LEDs themselves are not designed to be flexed right or left, just up and down - if that makes sense.

SlingMods has not yet called or emailed me back. They sent me an email to forward images and the video links for them to review. I assume they are still investigating.

These lights are holding up the completion of my Spyder. I don't want to put it all back together only to have to tear it back out again later. I want to be able to install these in a controlled environment (aka on a desk, with the best access) and not just shoving wires into places. lol

The engineer in me is thinking I can cut the LED's down (they appear to have a cut line every 3 LED's. I could reuse the end piece and get these to fit, but I can't do that if I void my warranty. If these don't work out, I may be sending them back, which I'm sure will be a 'fun' process. I have already laid out a much more reliable circuit to do this same thing, but for the sake of time was hoping to use this kit. Overall, this is costing me more in time and money than it would if I had just done what I designed originally... :banghead:

Am I off base in my assessment? :helpsmilie:

Hi broderp,

Here are the pictures of my "Amber Side Vent LED Running Light Stripe w/Turn Signal Integration" that I have on my Spyder (2023 F3 LTD Special Series) that shows how they sit in the vents:

IMG_0473.jpg Left side/sitting on bike - with Lights on

IMG_0472.jpg Right side/sitting on bike - with Lights on

I hope the above pictures help. The Amber Side Vent LED Running lights stripes with Turn Signal Integration that I installed are on the bottom edge of the vents. The length of the Light strips are 12 & 1/4 inches long. From the beginning of the cord to the end of the light.

I have similar, but more of them... I wired AMBER LED's into most of my vents and Engine compartment... Looks cool at night, I wired them from a switch in case an LEO isn't happy... Mike

Thanks for the images! Looks like you got the same length LED as i did but I noticed that you installed them on the very outer edge of the vent. As such they seem to fit much better, but still seem to have a slight bend.

However I was going by their video that clearly shows the LEDs mounted on the underside. I want these here to make them more stealth when off as well as protect them from the elements and sun.

See the screenshots from the SlingMods video below, they clearly show these light sitting fully 100% on the area where I was intending to install, perfectly straight and with no part hanging over or sticking out. This is not how they fit in reality ~ unless you mount them as you did.

I'm thinking of returning these as they are not as advertised. I would be willing to modify them, but only if SlingMods agrees to honor the warranty if I do so. (doubtful)

I am not assuming I will get the SlingMods lights to work, so I am looking at alternatives. I have the electrical modules sourced, as well as a second backup very simple design that works.

All I need are LED's that fit, are the proper color, are waterproof and have the right brightness to do the job.

What did you use and can you share an image of what you did?

I searched e-bay and found dozens of bright LED's that would fit where I wanted them ...... the COB type LED is the brightest .... they come in various width's and lengths ..... I just replaced a RED LED circle shape in my right side Speaker box .... looks amazing ... good luck ....Mike

Hi broderp,

You are Welcome! Yes, I do have the same length of LED's that you have, and Yes, I did install them on very outer edge of the vent. Yes, they do fit better.

OK. That makes sense.

I did see the screenshots that you posted from SlingMods video. OK.

Good Luck with returning them.

HI brodep

I have also posted the picture My" Amber Side Vent LED Running Lights Stripe with Turning Signal Integration" in "My Album" for your future reference.

So I remember the past products I've bought from TricLED direct, and many of their packaging labels have multiple possible versions printed on the label, then they mark or highlight in yellow which of those light sets is in the bag. If you look at the OP's picture (and the linked Slingmods page) the Yellow highlighting is on the F3 Side Vent AND the 2015 -1018; But NOT the 2019 - Current. Like these old TricLed LED's I bought for my '13 RTL. The package could be used for 17 different bulbs, but only the 9005's were in it.

Packaging marking.jpg

I would see if you can get the actual set made for 2019-current and return or resell the 2015-2018 kit.

Great idea. I thought SlingMods would have the correct size as they only have one option and as I stated they fit as I was expecting on the video. I'll have to hit up sling Mods again to see what they say and or start the RMA process.

Hi IADawg24,

I checked the link, and it looks like the side-vent-turn-signal-running-light LED's for F3 models 2019 and up were installed in the bottom of the side vent.

I have the same LED's, but from a different company, and I installed mine. Look at post # 8 in this thread to see where I installed them. Also, look at my Albums for pictures.

I was getting impressed, but when I saw the $35 price was for the LED strips only, and you have to buy a $60 wiring kit to make it plug and play, I was rolling my eyes.

Those connectors and wires are pennies, the modules are a few bucks, the LED's are a few dollars. All in, there's maybe $10 worth of parts. Double that for profit and overheads, and you're in for less than $20.

I am returning my TricLED's for the reasons made clear in this thread. Slingmods was super cool and accepted my RMA, even including a prepaid shipping label, as well as waived any restocking fee. Product aside, I would recommend them as a company who cares about the customer experience.

I have parts coming in tomorrow (Monday the 22nd) to see about making my own. I have a working prototype flasher module and housing as well as wiring and connectors. All I need are the LED's. The first set I ordered (COB Strip) are too yellow but plenty bright. I am switching to high density LED's and if these work, I will be in for about $7 when you break it down to what I'm using in my "kit". I'm actually into this project about $50, but if these work out, I can light my entire Spyder with all the extra parts I have, lol. But as an engineering person, I always have projects that require circuits and such, so these extra parts will just go into the collection of electronic parts for my next project.

BTW - If anyone knows where you can buy clear or smoked half round LED channels, I'd love to hear from you. I'm considering printing my own channels with transparent/smoked filament to protect the LED's but would rather measure and cut vs. design and print....

Deanna777,

That's just the reflection. I installed mine at the top.

Also, I cut the connectors off and added extra wire, so I could run them down to my Lamonster fender harness.
