TRI AXIS HANDLEBAR QUESTION

Hi all,
I was thinking about changing over to the tri axis handlebar, is this a hard job for the average hanyman or should I have the dealer do it?

I did mine and helped another member do his. I did not time mine, but at my friends it took the two of us 5 hours to do them and he had most of the panels off before I got there.

ITs a pretty big job. I have done 2 of them and each took 4 to 5 hours. Nothing really hard, just LOTS to come off.

I've just had my dealer install the Tri Axis Bars on my brand new 2014 RTS prior to taking delivery of the Spyder. The dealer has advised me that the bars are very loose and "wobbly", rocking side to side about 1/8" - 1/4" at the handles, after all of the bolts have been torqued to spec. This is the 2nd install for this dealer. The first one was done a week ago and was loose as well, but the customer wanted to take it anyway! The dealer has advised that he is not happy with the end result at this point. After checking them myself, I agree with him. He has gone back to BRP for additional input. MY QUESTION: Has anyone else that has had these Tri Axis Bars installed experienced any form of side to side rocking, or looseness of the new handlebars, or are they nice and snug as I assume they should be ?

Any comments will be appreciated!

Thanks...

Side to side rocking or looseness -- absolutely NOT!:shocked: Very solid when installed properly. Once tightened to the position you select, they are as good as non-adjustable handlebars. No rocking or movements other than steering the Spyder.

PW2013STL and I installed my Tri-Axis adjustable handlebars and like he said took us about 5 hours. They are very solid when well installed. Take them back to the dealer for a correct install or find someone (dealer) who can install them properly!

If they are not solid, I would consider this a safety issue!! :yikes::yikes: IMHO.

It would be good to get input from others who have had them installed at the dealers......

Thanks for the fast response Jim (and Theresa).

When the dealer informed me of the problem, he advised that he did NOT want to deliver my new machine to me until the apparent problem was fixed. The dealer and I are in agreement on this... no fix, no delivery !

Good dealer that has always given me good service and is concerned about the safety aspect. Fun 'n' Fast in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, Canada. This will be my 3rd Spyder from them plus waiting for delivery of a Sea-Doo.

Would appreciate any comments relating to this problem from any Tri Axis handlebar owners.

Thanks again...

You are welcome! I would think any dealer that has a certified Spyder Tech. should be able to install properly. Just a lot of stuff to take off and then reassemble! The instructions that come with these have a lot to be desired!

I really enjoy the Tri-Axis handlebars as they have basically taken away any shoulder and neck pain I used to have with the stock handlebars. :D:D:D:D For me, those stock handlebars were way too far forward for my reach!

Good luck with resolution of this issue.

If they wobble, the dealer did not know what they are doing and did not follow the instructions. I have done two sets, and while time consuming, they are not hard to install. My bet is the mechanic cut a corner or two and something is not installed properly. TWICE NOW. Really?

The instructions, when combined with the service manual as intended (access to the service manual is assumed in the instructions) the order and steps are FULLY laid out. But the instruction sheets are just a few pages, but use many pages of steps from the service manual. They do not need to be on the phone with BRP, or if they are, should be a quick phone call. This should not take days. They need to remove them, back up and follow the instructions step by step. Doubtful BRP will tell them 'oh, if they wobble you missed bolt 42s on page 12' They need to figure it out and get you your bike. If they cannot, I would not want a bike they assembled. Starting out on a VERY bad foot. Get someone that actually knows Spyders or at least willing to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS and follow them rather than believing they know it all.

I would be less than 24hrs from walking away from the deal completely and calling Pittbull.

Sorry for the rant, but the lack of dealer service issue just keeps presenting itself over and over. Shear incompetence.

Thank you all for your valuable input. It is greatly appreciated. I will be using your input this morning during discussion with my dealer and I hope to be on the road with a fix for this problem in short order. Ryde safe everybody.

Had them on my 13 RT-S and then took them back off to turn around and reinstall them on my new 14 RT-S. Not hard but some have a great fear of tearing down their spyder that far. When in doubt seek help from someone that has done it or pay your dealer. Mine are not loose now or when they was on the 13 model either.
