• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Wife and I went to the Tail of the Dragon, NC. going down the hill I used the engine to slow us down, 4th and 3rd gear, would doing so, dammage the transmission?? during the ride my transmission light start to flash on and off on the computer screen. I stoped and checked the oil level, it was OK, the light went out and it ran OK the rest of the day. When I got home (Florida) I took to the dealer, they said they had to replace the clutchs.
By puting it in a lower gear down hill, like you do in your auto, wil it do dammage to the clutches?? :gaah::dontknow:
 
When I'm on the Dragon I'm in second most of the time and sometimes first, almost never third or forth.
 
You should not damage an clutch or trans while engine braking. The only clutch wear you would experience is each time you shift gears, so the amount of wear is a matter of how often you downshift or upshift. Frankly, the quick downshifts cause far less clutch wear than leaving a stoplight. In either case the clutch is designed for this purpose, and should last a long, long time. Keep in mind that if this were a problem, BRP would most certainly warn against it. The transmission would not be damaged from engine braking, unless it was going to fail anyway, or the clutch did not disenage completely, resulting in the grinding of gears.

I don't know what diagnostics your dealer found, but the most common cause of these warnings would be a bad Gear Position Sensor. If the clutch is shot, there has to be another reason, like use of an SM oil, or a clutch fault from the factory such as inadequate freeplay or parts that hang up during operation.

I got my :spyder2: back today, the dealer said that the clutches were "blue" what ever that means, but it is running OK now, lets see what happends. Thanks for the replies and yes there was times I was in 2nd gear down hill.

Blued clutch plates are an indication of a slipping clutch. The blue comes from the heat. The clutch discs will usually be damaged, too. A clutch with weak springs, warped clutch plates, improperly fitting components, the wrong components, worn clutch discs, a manual clutch with the lever being ridden", or the wrong oil can do this. I hope the carefully measured clearances and looked for possible causes while they were in there. There is more likely a physical reason than just a lot of engine braking as a cause. Many of us have ridden the mountains and twisties, and we have used engine braking extensively without causing clutch problems.
 
I got my :f_spider: back, they rebuilt the clutch. They also replaced the compressor due to the fact they did not fix an air leak, the last time I brought it in. The day I had transmission problems in NC., I also fried the compressor due to the air leak. All under warranty. So far everything runs OK. :pray::pray::pray:
