• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Transmission not shifting

On my way to the dealer to get replacement windshield bracket replaced the transmission would not shift from second to third. Then it wouldn't shift to into gear and finally got it stuck in reverse ( the things tried when all else fails). Hauled to the dealer and has it in the shop but no word back yet.

1300 miles from home, they have a 2014 in the crate so I might have options if I can come to a reasonable price for trading up but thinking . . .

So the question is has someone had similar transmission issues (2011 RT LTD , 47,000 miles) and what kind of fix did it involved?

Thanks!

There was a thread here not too long ago where it turned out the shift lever stripped out the splines. I seem to think the repair was ugly (new trans) but I could be wrong.

Bummer..!!

as mentioned..the lever gets loose on the shift shaft. Hopefully it can be cleaned and tightend and your on your way...well if the get your bracket fixed. If the parts are too far gone it may need a new shift shaft and you need to go into the transmission for that. There are other ways us third world folks deal with this problem but your dealers will tell you the engine need to be torn down. (Costly in labor..cheap parts). Fingers crossed and it may be something else..

preventive maintenance

Hope it's not the shift linkage! :yikes:but that makes me wanna take a look at mine tighten it up! 30k on my 12....have to see what the torque is and check it periodically....

What was the oil level? Low oil will cause everything you describe.

Loose shift lever could also be the cause as mentioned above. Most of the time it just falls off. Many times it is just put back on. Easily done anywhere, even on the side of the road. Tighten up the pinch bolt and it's all fixed. The recent report of stripping off the splines on the shaft is the only time I can remember that happening.

It is part of my oil change routine to check the shift lever. If it slides on the spline shaft, it's time to tighten the pinch bolt.

Since its at the dealer--hope they get it fixed quickly.

Easiest first: check oil level or shift linkage. Have had both issues here and they solved the problems for me.

Update

It was internal parts that needed replacing, so instead of waiting for a week for parts I decided to pull the trigger on the 2014 and be on my way early next week.

thanks for the replies and happy riding.

Well; it sounds like the bad news/good news sort of a deal...
:congrats:, But I'm sorry that it took this much to get you onto a 2014... :2thumbs:
