• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

As others have responded, it can't be done. My cluster had to be replaced and I had the dealer state that in writing on their letterhead including the odometer reading. That way you can't be accused of tampering with the odometer when you sell or trade the Spyder. You see, if the new owner were to take the vehicle to a Spyder dealer, once it's hooked up to BUDS the true odometer reading would be revealed.

The only one i know of who transfers the mileage is Harley Davidson, If the dealer had to change an odometer they send it back to Harley and the replacement will have the correct miles, Not so with BRP. :dontknow:

Mileage is kept in the cluster and not the ECM. It is not avail;able via BUDS after a cluster change. After a cluster change your odometer will revert to zero. Federal law requires that a signed sticker with the date and mileage at the change be placed on the left door pillar at the time of change. Obviously, with no door pillars, that is impossible for a Spyder. A good tech will attach the sticker to the back of the new cluster, but few do so. It would be possible for BRP to program a new cluster, upon receipt of the old one, and ship it to the dealer with the new mileage...but any other transfer method would be open to easy tampering or fraud, and is not a good idea (or legal). Write down your old mileage when you drop off your Spyder for a cluster problem, just in case.

I stand corrected. It was a dealer tech who told me that the mileage could be retrieved.

That link to NHTSA is a little disturbing... If the cluster were to be sent back to the manufacturer so that a replacement unit could be programmed to read the actual mileage that the vehicle has accumulated; that still sounds like an offense under the wording of this article.

Only if it's done loosey goosey, When its done with certification and Vin # its legal.
Other wise it has to be noted TMU.

:gaah:Yep had our replace twice and now I have it written down because we were told that it was not retrievable with BUDS or anything else.
:banghead:

A sticker on the frunk lid and a signed letter in the owners manual should suffice as proof. Putting it on the back of the cluster pretty much makes it difficult to get to if needed.

Well if you change your cluster to fraud a buyer then this would apply. If you disclose that your mileage was reset because of a cluster change then I don't see a problem. This link has to do with fraud not actual mileage.
;)

I smell lawsuit

I purchased a brand new Spyder RS last year from an authorized dealer and recently had my cluster changed at this dealer under warranty. The problem is that now that I want to trade my Spyder for a more typical two wheel bike, no one wants to touch it since it has "unknown" mileage and this creates a bonded title consequently dropping the value of the Spyder considerably. I am looking into legal action.

This particular thread is now a couple years old. No further updates seem to have been made.

I would think that proper documentation from the dealer that made the change should be sufficient to validate the correct mileage on your :spyder2:.
