• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Trailer Hitch Fender

Because it is attached to the trailer hitch, which is attached to the frame / axle, the only ground clearance you will give up is the give in the tire. That should be a fixed distance from the ground (unless you go airborne).

The bigger question would be the clearance at the top... Riding 2 up, is there enough clearance to not break any plastic...

The RT fender is practically vertical on the inside which increases the space between the tire and the RT fender. Toss in the fact that the arc of movement is forward of the center of the tire by about 30" and the resulting arc of movement will bring them close. I don't see anything above the fender that it could possible contact before the tire touches the plastic at the top. I assume that can not happen... I don't know of any way to find out how much travel the rear swing arm has short of putting a couple of well fed folks on the bike and lowering the pressure to minimum on the rear shock. IMHO the only thing that could touch would be the bottom lip of the factory fender if the trailer hitch fender was mounted too far aft.

Opps the photos...

The fender I used had about a 16" radius, I would have preferred one with a 14" radius to stay closer to the tire but that is all I could find in this 1/2 horse town. After some research online you can get just about any size fender you want.

Here is a photo showing the original plastic fender along with my fender so you can see the difference in location and clearance.

Yea, have to agree 14" would be better. As for "well fed volunteers" I B one......think rabtech B 1 2. :roflblack: Not sure if he'd volunteer but me do :roflblack:

Man, would I like to. Would be a nice putt.

Been waiting for someone to take this challenge on, and bring it to market. Thought Lamont might when he did his...didn't happen?

Keep us posted as you proceed.

The fender moves with the swing arm so the ground clearance is the same all the time. The fender is close to the tire so you would have to drive off of a square curb to hang it on anything IMHO. I'll post up a couple more photos.

Side picture shows it, got it.................

Good news on the pricing for the fender, but I'd have to sell 25 sets to afford being a sponsor the forum for a year :yikes:

John

I think that you are having too much fun inventing things for the Spyder. Your new name should be Inventor John or something similar.

See you at the BBQ

Need to sell 25 units. Two+ a month over a year. 24% overall sales increase annually. What percentage of that number is RT's with trailers is the unknown. 25 a year may be doable coming out of the gate based on the number of units currently using trailers. Some may have already done their own mod. But that's not likely a high number. What to do? tol

Looks good. If you get a flat tire will it drag?

I assume you mean will the fender touch the ground when the tire is flat. Good question, I hope to never find out. I'm adjusting the fender to 14" long by 10" wide. That will have a bit more room on each end.

Thanks
