There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Trailer harness wiring route

NorthStar

New member
My dealer installed my trailer wiring harness two years ago on my RT. They routed the harness on the underside of the rear fender, wrapped in plastic conduit. Unfortunately the rear tire has worn through the conduit and exposed some of the harness wires. Ergo, now I have a short of some type blowing the F7 fuse and I do not have lights on my trailer.

Can someone check their harness and tell me if the routing used by my dealer is correct, or should they have routed the harness over the top of the fender.

Thanks

I just checked both mine and my wife's RT and the wire is defiinitely not routed outside near the tire. I think your dealer needs to be replacing the connections at no cost to you.

The routing I used when doing the install did run it through the fender, although not close enough to the tire to be rubbed. I know your problem has happened to others.

Hi Mike

I think Lamont posted year and a half ago the right way and the wrong way to route the harness. I know when I did mine it took a lot longer to route the harness so that at no point did the harness get exposed in the wheel well .

The harness can be run without exposing it inside the fender. The instructions call for it to be elsewhere. I followed the instructions and neither of mine were exposed. IMO your dealer screwed up. Getting them to admit it will be difficult, however. I wish you luck. Chances are you will need a new trailer module/harness.

Thanks everyone for confirming my suspicion that the harness was routed incorrectly. I sent a message to the dealer asking them to check their installation instruction for this harness and to tell me if I should go after BRP directly for issuing improper mounting instructions to their dealers. I will wait a few days and see if the dealer calls me back before I escalate my complaint up from the service manager to the owner. I really do not want to drive 2.5 hrs. down the road unless I am led to believe i can expect a satisfactory resolution. The dealer has always played straight with me and I am hoping for a happy ending. Only time will tell.
