Traded my 2019 Ryker Rally for a New Canyon Standard - First Impressions

Nice thing about Amazon, @Tslepebull, is that it is easy to return stuff.

You got that right. The right and left Shad bags came from different vendors; one shipped by UPS and the other shipped by FedEx. I actually had the return process with Amazon initiated before the second bag arrived. Plan B initiated.

Hi @Tslepebull,

I sat on a Canyon Redock at my dealership today, and I feel the riding position is very familiar to the F3 & RT Spyder models. The seat is not as comfortable when compared to the F3 or the RTS seats (driver). You sit higher and more upright on the Canyon Redock.

Also, the dealership had an accessory pouch fitted below the ignition switch - the accessory pouch was from BRP and it had 2 small compartments in the pouch where you could maybe put a pair of sunglasses, or some other small items like a chap stick, keys, coins, or insurance/registration paperwork. It had a cover with a zipper.

Thanks Deanna, I have that little tank bag on order with my dealer (along with heated grips and back-up camera). When they all come in it will be an installation party.

Well, it seemed like a good idea. I ordered a set of the 47L Shad Terra cases from Amazon. They came in today. However, they will not work with the Canyon. The mounting hook on the generic Shad Terra's is 6" wide. The bar between the upright pieces on the Canyon mount is only 4.75", so the upright pieces prevent the mounting hook from engaging. Apparently, BRP was clever enough to have proprietary mounting hooks made for the Can Am Shad bags that prevent use of the generic Terra bags.

Oh well, on to plan B and the purchase of the Canyon marked bags. BUT, they are out of stock. Now the wait starts. At least I have my DIY tail trunk for grocery runs.
Oh that's a shame, but thanks for testing the theory. Yes Amazon is useful for that (y)

So is it this part that's too wide? The gap between the flip out LinQ mountings does look quite narrow:

Ok, here's the part that's different, the Canyon version has more angled ends to make the middle smaller. What we need is someone to scan the Can-Am part and start 3D printing them. 🤣

It is the SHAD part in your first photograph that is too wide. Only one of the lateral hooks (the front one) on the bottom part of the bag (as shown in the schematic) is used on the Canyon mount. The rear hook is likely used on the SHAD 4-point mount that would be aftermarket installed on another machine.

So I visited my dealer today and my Canyon tank bag had come in. Installation was:

  1. remove seat;
  2. loop the hook under the tank cowl;
  3. twist the LinQ nano fasteners into the orifice on the tank frame;
  4. Stand back and feel very good about my mechanical prowess.

The tank bag is twice the size of the one from my Ryker and will hold all my... "stuff". Fueling will be a snap; lefty loosie on both Nano nuts; flip the bag back on the seat; and pump away; reverse procedure; and ride. This stuff is easy!

Yes, interestingly it makes the Can-Am bags not handed unlike the standard SHAD bags. Can-Am only uses the top and front mounts.

That might be why they don't offer the larger bags as well, with one less mounting point.
