• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Trade in value?

Trade "up" value

My wife and I just traded up from 2011 RT SE5 to 2014 RT S6. We received $15K on each of the 2011s which is a little above Kelly Blue Book value, but we did buy two new 2014s.

My 2 cents

First thing a dealer will do is strip the Spyder back to the original state, all the extras are simply that. You wanted them for comfort and styling, dealers only see bottom line value. When it comes to trade-ins your better taking off the candy and selling it on eBay etc.

It's also worth remembering in some states you only pay tax on the difference between trade and the new bike. You may get a little extra selling privately but take into account that extra tax you will pay on the full price of the new bike.

I like the idea of the 2014 torque especially coming from a Goldwing, but the market is flooded with trades at the moment. Going to ride my 2012 until a deal can be had nearer to fall, fingers crossed I don't wait too long and my 12 as no value.

trade in value

Hi Bob. My 2011 rt limited had 16,000 miles and I paid $11.735 difference with tax. Motosports in Hanover, Pa. They are very nice to work with. 717 632 7093

At the end of the day the bottom line is this...............What ever you're selling/trading (Sypder, bike, house, car, atv, snowmobile, etc) its only worth whatever someone will pay you for it.

Look up the value in 4 different books and you'll get 4 different ranges.
Talk trade with 4 different dealers and you'll get 4 different numbers
Have 4 different people reply to your Craig's List ad and you'll get 4 different offers.

The value is entirely market driven. Sometimes the market is in your favor and sometimes its not. For me it seems most of the time its not.

When I purchased my new 2012 RS I did a lot of used Spyder shopping. What I found was I could buy a brand new bike with a better warranty for about the same money as what people were trying to sell their 09 and 10's for. They would all say, "it books for" or "but I have $2500 worth of accessories" or ................. Doesn't matter. The market said I could buy a brand new bike cheaper therefore your bike isn't worth what you're asking. It's really that simple.

Thanks!

It's always good to have a list of the really good dealers that are nearby! ;)

Well said. BRP and their deep discounts may be helping them clear out surplus inventory now, but it is a move that may come back to haunt them over the long haul. Instead of deeply discounting those units in the US. Perhaps they should have shipped them to Japan to open that new market with. Then they would not have devistated the resale market in the US. just a thought

I encountered the same situation in 2006 when I bought my new 2005 Goldwing. The new bike was only about $2500 more than what some guys thought their 10 year old 1500 was worth! But, that wasn't the situation when I bought my 2013 RT last November. The guy was anxious to sell. He had bought it last May and had only 600 miles on it and 3 year MA. He sold it to me for $14000, and adding $1000 to ship from WI to ID meant I paid about $15000 for it. The local dealer wanted to sell me one at no markup and rebate figured in, for $17700. For $2700 less I went with the used, but same as new, one.

Motivated seller who had to take his pricing Q from BRP's discounting program. You won!
