Trade in value?

Just curious as to those that have traded in their 08 spyders for newer models. I am really curious as to what people have gotten recently (like within the last 4 months or so) on their trade in? How many miles did it have? SE5 or SM5? The dealer offered me $7500, I think it should be at least 8k, thoughts?? opcorn:opcorn:

Actually I am not one fitting your needs. Buy I wanted to comment... That actually seems pretty reasonable. They cannot take into account any accessories (That does not mean they won't, just do not expect them to).

The 2008 model is now the first of four model years. And they would probably offer it for sale in the $11-13k range... Settling for about $10,500+ depending on miles and how many other models they have.

We have been looking for a used RS pretty much all of this year. So this is where my personal thoughts on this are coming from. Not official, just commenting that it does seem reasonable...

Not to mention that if you are trading it in on a newer unit, this gives you some leverage to force their hand into a better deal on the new Spyder or the warranty/service or accessories. That is what happened for us. :thumbup: YMMV.........

I was not happy with the trade in value, but blown away on the deal made for the new one and that balance it all out to a very happy camper (Wife). In fact I will say this. It was the first time in my life that I walked in to a dealership, asked what deal they put together for us... They told us... I said perfect. Sold...

Very pleased with how we have been treated and serviced. And most definitely will buy many more vehicles from them in our future. nojoke

I would never trade anything to a dealer, they will always offer a very low price so they can mark it up when they sell it if you have the time selling it yourself will always get you the best price. I also don't believe that if you trade that will help you get a good deal on what ever you are buying, I think cash in hand speaks for itself you let them know you are a serious buyer and you have cash ready now they will deal.

I hear ya, I am not trading it in. I was looking at an RT for a great deal but at the time the only way to afford the monthly payment was to either sell or trade in my RS. I did not want to get rid of the RS so I will wait till I can save up some down payment, and get rid of one of my car payments, than I will go back and get an RT. I will not only have one or the other, I have to have both to suit my needs/wants. The 7500 is just what they were offering me while I was there and thought it was a little low, especially cause I only have 2800 miles on my spyder. I do understand that they need to make a profit and it will sit there for a little while till they get a buyer, but I just felt that 7500 was just too low.

I just sold my 2008 SE5 with phantom kit and a few upgrades on craigs list for $13,000. It was a clean bike, 7500 miles. The first guy who came to see it bought it. I still had several calls after it was gone. Sounds to me like you could do better. I know trading in is hassle free, but it was really very little effort to sell mine and I know the dealer would have given me a lot less.

If it comes down to it I would sell it private party. But I will just probably keep it and just buy an RT to go along with it. Unless I can talk my wife into upgrading me to a ne RS-S along with the RT :2thumbs:

If he wants to give you $7500, then make sure you get the new machine at a lower price. "6-in-1, half dozen in the other."
It's a personal decision of how badly you need to sell it for, and how much a new one worth to you. Selling it out-right tends to get you more money but for me, trading it in sure is easier, IMO. You're in the driver's seat.

Unfortunately, those prices mean nothing...honestly.

I recently sold my lexus hybrid, which was low mileage and MINT, with 2 years left on manufacturer's warranty, and I couldn't get close to those prices, either through a dealer or private party.

I sold eventually on ebay, but the market always determines the price...nobody really follows Kelly's or Edmunds except dealers who want to rip people off...I would've gotten another 3k for my vehicle if everyone considered those prices...argh!

I bought my '09 RS SM5 for $14K off the showroom, added $6K in farkles, put 7,200 miles on the clock, and sold it a year later (8/10) for $14,500 cash. A couple of used '08s were on Craigslist for $8500 to $9500 then - and that was retail (no dealers).

Having said that, our local dealer still wants $14K for his '08 demos. Bottom line - it's worth what you can get for it…...

They may mean nothing, depending on your dealer, buyer, or seller...and your market. They are statistically derived from the average values reported, and do fairly represent market averages in most markets, however. They are also a valid tool, you can't be ripped off if you know the book values going in to the dealer. If you have a rough idea what to expect, you will not likely be surprised or fooled when the dealer gives his initial low-ball price...or demands an outrageous fortune for a sale. You will also likely recognize a bargain if you hear it. The bottom line is...there are places to look up these things, other than SpyderLovers.

I don't know how other States work' But in New Jersey and New York if you trade in a vehicle you only pay the sales tax on amount you payed the dealer not the full price of the new vehicle. So there's a little saving there. 7 to 8+ percent.

Also i can't deal with people coming to my house and trying to chisel me down, so i just trade it in.

I don't know what the trade in value is on an 08... but I was at the dealer the other day and they had one for sale that they had taken in on trade and the tag said 13,000. They had an 09 for 14,500. I don't know about the mileage etc... I think I would try to sell mine outright before trying to trade it in... just sayin.

We got 9800.00 on trade for my wife's 08 RS with 13,500 miles on it and we traded for a new Suzuki C50T Boulevard. We did the deal about 6 months ago.

I was gonna guess $8,000 for wholesale / blue book / clean trade. $7,500 sounds like its in the ball park. Higher trade value means they just make up the difference on the other end.

I would never be without a spyder, I will own them as long as they keep making them. If I wanted to get a newer RS I would simply sell the 08 I have and put that cash down on one. I have been looking at the RS-S matte burnt orange spyder, but the wife and I are going to get an RT-S first and then I will consider trading my GS/RS on a new RS-S. Like I was saying before, I can't be without an RS, I just have way too much fun with it. RT will be great for our 2 up and distance riding, but I gotta have my RS for sport riding.
