Toy Haulers?

We have been looking at new and used toy haulers here in CT. One place has a used KZ sportsmen 26T coming in. Anyone have any experience(s) with the KZ line of toy haulers? Also looking at the Rush line and an Extreme model. Any thoughts about any toy haulers would be great, looking to purchase in the next two weeks, :yes:and be on a road trip to a rally in Lake George NY in July. We have to trailer from time to time as my wife is retired but has health isssues. We plan on taking 4 days (sight seeing) to get to the rally.

From what I know the KZ sportsman is a good line. Talk to me after Americade as I have been thinking about trading up. I have a 26' Jayco Octane T 26 Y. Leaving today.

Be sure to watch carefully the weight limits and towing requirements when looking at these. If you are planning to tow with a 1/2 ton pickup the choices get much more limited. Most trailer mfg use 3500 lb axles (5-lug wheels) on the smaller trailers but heavier axles, such as 4400 or 5200 lb, give much more assurance when you start pushing the weight limit which is easy to do hauling a spyder plus all your gear. You usually dont know you have a problem until the axles bow and wear out a set of tires on one trip! This is the voice of experience talking!

Like cjackg said be sure that it will be strong enough to take the weight of the Spyder. We had a Jayco Talon ZX which was a super heavyweight trailer and I would highly recommend one but they don't make them anymore. The Jayco Octane's are great also I think they weigh a little less than the Talon which makes towing it easier than the Talon. If I were you I'd talk to rnet about his Octane. You'll save a lot of money on a good used trailer.

Your truck is the #1 issue. If the trailer doesn't have a separate, enclosed garage, fergetaboutit…….. keep the smells and junk out of the living area. If your truck or checkbook won't handle something like that, I suggest a nice covered trailer, and motels….. just my $0.02

:agree:

That's funny I have never had a gas smell that trailer since I bought it in 2008, I guess if you carry junk, stick to the garage, but then you will smell them in there as well. Do pay attention to what the truck's tow capacity is however.

:agree: The only smell in my trailer is in the morning from Holly after she has ate beans the night before........ :roflblack:

Some toys are smelly, some aren't. My vintage bikes have open gas cap vents, and often spill gas during transit with a full tank, so they smell up a closed trailer. The smell usually dissipates quickly when the trailer is opened if it was just the vents, but not is gas was actually spilled. The modern stuff is pretty tight, so it is usually OK. If you flooded your emissions canister and your Spyder smells up your garage at home, it will smell up your trailer, too. If not, it should do fine. One advantage to a separate garage is that the toy can be kept indoors in bad weather or when you don't need to use it during a quick, overnight stay. Of course if you prefer to sleep with your Spyder, you may want to keep it indoors anyway...LOL. JMHO

Making the jump to a toy hauler with separate garage takes big dollars plus a bigger truck. My WP hauler is 21' overall and we have never had a problem with odors plus we use the truck bed for extra gear, not the camper. So far pretty comfortable traveling for 2 people with a spyder!

I'm looking at one just like yours, It's a 2011 19' Ultra W&P. I can get it for 16000.00 asking price. Is that a good price?
Only used three times and looks to have some extras but no screen door on the back door. And no over head bed. Guess
the fold out couches are all the sleeping it has. What do you think? Anything I should know? I have F150 Ford and I think
I can stay under weight limit on the truck. Any imput?

That price sounds pretty good and the 19UFB has a nice floorplan, but, I was never clear on whether there was space (between the 2 couches folded up on the sides) to clear the Spyder front wheels. The specs in the WP brochure dont tell so measuring is the only way to be sure. That one has better axles than the UL16, 4400 lb & 9873 GVWR.

To the OP I had a KZ spree at one time for 2 years. It was not a toy hauler but did not have any problems.
I now have a Heartland Roadwarrior toyhauler, had this for 2 1/2 years no major problems either. I travel over most of the southern US with this 5th wheel in my line of work. Pull this with a dodge cummings . A great place for any RV or towing info would be RV.net
