Towing harness RT-S question

I am planning to tow a trailer which I already aquired a few years back when I was a Goldwing owner, this is the all aluminum trailer you buy from America's best trailer if you know the one I am refering to (see attached picture). If I completely change the Spyder trailer harness plug in to a normal everyday type of plug in to match my trailer taking into consideration it does have LED light with seperate LED turn signals would that work??? If not, what would be best to do??? I have read most of the threads about trailer on here and it appears that it should be ok... Just looking for more details I guess... Cheers

best to buy the trailer wireing lead that goes from trailer to spyder cut it and put 6 way plug on the end that way you dont have to change plug on spyder, thats what i did works great

You cannot change the plug on the RT, because the converter module is integral with the connector. If your trailer is 5-wire (separate turn signals), you can either make an adapter using the 2010 BRP Trailer Tongue Harness, wire the BRP tongue harness to the trailer directly, or make an adapter or rewire the trailer using individual Deutsch connector parts. If your trailer is 4-wire (combined turn/brakelights), you may be able to use the 2011 Trailer Tongue Harness to make an adapter or wire directly, but I have not tested this yet. The 2011 RT-622 trailers are 4-wire. Beyond that, most folks have found adding a set of turn signals to be the easiest. Lots of threads on this subject if you search,

I just did the wiring on a Aluma MCT which is very similar to your trailer.My trailer had a 5 pin round plug.I bought the BRP trailer harness and cut off the end that goes to the trailer,wired in the 5 pin plug,I did not use the yellow wire on the BRP harness.Only use one of the brake light wires red or orange. .Everything works like a charm, marker lights, brake lights and turn signal. Get a wire diagram of your trailer plug so you can match up the pins on the harness.

Just an interesting note here. I wanted to set up my popup camper to use with both my wife's HHR and my Spyder. The camper is a standard 5-wire setup. I split the rear brakelights, and added an orange wire to the front for the left brake. I made an adapter from the 6-pole connector on the trailer to a four pole, using only the separated brake wire, not the turn signals. Now I can tow with either. The separate brake circuits on the Spyder provide the capability to do this. The BRP engineers were thinking way ahead. :thumbup:

Thanks for the input... I am getting the trailer hitch installed on my ride next week and I thought that by replacing the connector from the Spyder would be easier but I guess not... Will get the BRP trailer harness instead and match it on the trailer to work on the Spyder.. Thanks agian

I hope this isn't concidered "Hijacking" this post but I have a similar problem. I want to use my wife's CanAm trailer behind my goldwing once-in-awhile. I know I need the trailer harness adapter that BRP sells, but $139 seems really steep for that. Is anyone makeing an aftermarket adapter for this?

None that I am aware of. You can buy the Deutsch connector and pins, and make your own.
