I want to tow my RT from Florida to Maryland to use it for the summer. It is too wide to fit into any of the U Haul trailers. I could buy a trailer that would work, but have no place to store it. Can I use a car dolly? I would remove the drive belt and tow the Spyder with the front wheel on the dolly and let the rear wheel trail.

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

u-haul does have a open trailer that works. I used it when I purchased my spyder
Do you remember the model of the trailer? They have a 6'x12' with a ramp, but there are side pieces on the back that restrict the opening to 57" and my Spyder is 62"

6x12 utility trailer. Not the one with ramp. I just used slight slope or boards to load.

There are trailers that work but you have to load the spyder backwards and remove the windshield when driving. Kendon also make a great folding trailer if you have limited space for storage. Still the best is ryde in down yourself or you may find someone who would do it for you....where are you now..:roflblack::roflblack:

U-Haul is pretty fussy about renting trailers to folks who don't have a hitch rated for a certain towing weight. I tried to rent the 6x12 and they wouldn't rent to me as I have a ball on the bumper of my F150.

So get a truck, I used a 26 ft Penske to move my bikes across the country in November 2014. Oh and don't tell them you are hauling bikes. You could also have it shipped.

Wow, very nice offer. However, I think the car dolly will be the perfect way to tow, since one can completely disconnect the drive train from the rear wheel. And, the reply right after yours, confirms my view that this idea will work. Thanks very much for the kind offer.

Thanks. It seemed like the perfect solution to me as the rear wheel will be completely disconnected from the drive train. After looking at your web site, it looks like I will be able to ride over to Daytona Beach, when I get back to FL in October, and correct any alignment problems introduced by the towing.

For those who might come across this thread later attempting to tow their Spyder, I will close it out. Simply, I could not do it using U-Haul equipment. As reported in one of the postings above, U-Haul does have a 6x12 trailer without ramp in which the Spyder will fit, but loading will require supplying your own ramp. The trailers with ramp and the enclosed trailers all have short extensions on the back that limit the width to 57" and block the Spyder RT which is 62" wide. The tow dolly would have worked well but because U-Haul has not tested it, they will not rent the dolly, assuming you are truthful about the vehicle you intend to tow. Frustrated.

Thanks. In hind sight I should have accepted your offer. As it was, we ran out of time and just drove back to Maryland leaving the Spyder in the garage. We live in Palmetto and are spending the next two months living on our boat near Annapolis (We spent the previous two months moving the boat up the Intercoastal Waterway). Perhaps we can connect when we get back in October.

you just need a speed bump or place with a slight incline to help level out tailgate to load on u-haul trailer. I also put a couple 2x4 on tailgate In front of each tire when loading to keep front nose from rubbing.
