Tow Dolly. Okay to use with Spyders?

Just wondering if anyone knew if using a dolly would be okay and letting the rear wheel drag and keeping it in neutral. I already have a flatbed trailer but was thinking this would be a cheaper alternative but not sure if it will mess up the rear end.

Not sure but I'm sure you will learn a bunch from the members on this forum. I took a look at the dolly and it does look good --- possible depending on the info you recieve on this threat I may have one soon. Maybe they can build a dolly that has ONE rear tire on the back so that the dolly will look like the wheels of a spyder so we don't have to worry about draging the rear tire.. What you think??

If I recall, someone here tried to fit a Spyder on a dolly, but had loading, clearance, and width issues. Not a viable alternative, IMO.

Absolutely not a good idea. :lecturef_smilie: It will certainly play havoc with your wheel bearings and final drive, even if the Spyder is in neutral.

I too would be apprehensive about doing this for anything more than just a few miles, in a pinch.

The transmission is lubricated with engine oil when the engine is running......Wonder how much lubrication would be happening if the engine isn't running, and the output end of the tranny is spinning away.....:dontknow:

I don't think the results would be pretty....

The closest thing I can find is the stinger trailer. It folds and stores upright.

If you go with the dolly you may end up being sorry. Go with the trailer, less chance of damaging your spyder.

Hello LadyDi, Ten year old post, but we do have a Trailer area on the forum that has many threads about different trailers here is a link to one thread for the Stinger Trailer https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?105657-Can-Am-Stinger-trailer good luck in your search. DO NOT USE a tow dolly. The only way to use a tow dolly and be sure and not damage your Spyder is to remove the drive belt, way to much work and even then its hard to load.

Old thread, but, anyone considering towing needs to read the operator's manual under the section for "transporting". Simply put, it says don't do it.
