touring

I was wondering if anyone has taken any long trips with either the stock windshield or the touring windshield and how the wind was at highway speeds for extended periods of riding. I just took a road trip from FL to LA on my road king (mostly interstate riding 70-75mph). I took the demo ride on the spyders a month ago but only got to ride around town never even made it up to 50 mph. It did great under those conditions but I would like to know how the spyder would fare on a road trip. Any experiences with this would be appreciated.

Longest day trip was 700+ miles and it did just fine. :doorag: I've had no real issues that I could fix. I have highway pegs, cruise control, gps, xm and by this time next week I should have the trailer hooked up. :bigthumbsup:

Wow! highway pegs and cruise control? now your talking my language. I would love to see some close up pics of those. being an avid tourer I'm on the fence as to whether or not the spyder will be a suitable replacement for my road king. But it sounds like you have solved alot of my concerns. I know what it's like to put on 600 miles at a stretch and the fatigue that comes with it. I want to think that the spyder can compare comfort wise.

Wow cruise control! Where, and how do I get it. I live in North Florida near Gainesville. I have had my spyder for about 2 months now and love it. I put a touring windshield on it and hubby and I are going to do some touring next month to LA, but I would love to have cruise and highway pegs as well.

Highway pegs are good, but you can't stay on them all the time. The normal riding position is not good for the long haul. After a couple of hours my knees start talking to me. I look for some relief in this area from Corbin or BRP. You can put a duffel bag on the pillion seat, but it must be removed to put gas in the tank. Corbin is working on this problem. They will provide separate seats with back rests and saddlebags. I don't have the riser block yet, but I will. I prefer not to use a windshield, except when the ambient temperature is higher than my body temperature. This gives us reverse wind chill and should be avoided.

I bought my Spyder specifically to do the cross-country trips. I am hopeful that enough modifications can be made to make this feasible and enjoyable. Right now the jury is still out.

I'm planning a 6k + trip in June. For me, after 2k + on my Spyder;
I have and like the riser,
I have and find the touring windshield almost useless*, and am seeking an alternative,
I love the leg/peg position and will not be getting highway pegs (I think),
I find the stock saddle to be very good - not excellent, but very good - I'll keep it,
I'm about to put a throttle rocker on it, maybe a throttlemeister, too.

For luggage: I am shopping soft luggage. Looks like saddlebags and/or a seat bag can be connected under the seat so you can still gas-up.

*It puts turbulent wind (and the bugs) smack dab into my face shield - which I prefer to ride with open at times on long rides...
