Torque settings on new oil drain plugs?

So, I recently changed the OEM oil drain plugs for the magnetic type with the regular hex bolt heads. My question is this--does the OEM torque values still hold for these plugs? i think they might be steel plugs screwing into aluminum. I don't want to strip anything out so I need advice from others who have done the same thing. Thanks for your help!

Your correct, be careful

When we finally pick up Teds Red Sled from the shop, I'll be sure to ask them this question for future reference in case we ever switch back. I had done the same & switched to the magnetic Hex Plug & with having a hand injury had my brother do the wrenching on my last oil change & yup, he stripped the threads. Shop is having to put a Heli-Coil in & switching it back to OEM plug for now. Live & Learn, good to ask now & I'm sure someone in the know will chime in soon. Otherwise, when I find out, I'll report back.

They would be the same but always make sure you have a new copper crush washer when installing..:thumbup:

That's the bad thing about steel into aluminum. You have to be very careful not to overtighten. Usually snug then 1/4 turn is about correct if you don't have the torque value. The copper washer is there to allow for any difference in surface milling (irregularities) of the oil pan. Since the threads are the same on the OEM plug and the hex head plug the torque will not change. Correct torque is 15ftlbs SAE and 20nm metric.

I just did mine yesterday with the gold plugs and used the same setting, 20 nm with new washers. It sure doesn't seem like much but it doesn't leak.
