I could not believe it! I was at work today to try and get ready for my knee surgery on Wednesday and the RN Supervisor and I were on the phone when the wind got really strong... A few minutes later she called my office and told me we were under a tornado warning. We moved into our High Winds plan and I ran up the back stairs to help out on the floors. I was in the lobby closing the curtains and the power went out, I figured it was not a good sign.
ray:
We got all the curtains closed and moved all the residents away from the windows and so it was just getting through whatever came next. Then as quickly as it started, it stopped!
I left about an hour and a half after Warning was over and on my way home, it was very obvious that a tornado did touch down and that its path was probably about a mile from my nursing home on rte 5, and after it touched down there, it touched down even closer to my nursing home or there could even have been a 2nd one because a man on Robb Road said it touched down in his back yard and thats the next left off the road my nursing home is on about a 2-3 minute walk from the facility!!!:yikes: Just a bit too close for comfort for this Director of Nursing and from one who lives up here to stay away from tornados and such! I keep thinking if the curtains were open, we probably could have seen it from the top floor!
Well, we are all very thankful that our residents are safe and that the staff are safe and prayers go out to anyone who was directly in its path.
I wish I had not left work tonight, because I cant get back at this point. The road out was clear, but in, it is not.. not even the back roads way we all took when the roads flooded with Irene. Too many trees down.
The power of the storm was amazing... The church I attend was almost directly in its path. As I drove by, it looked like almost all the trees in the cemetary behind it are down.. Big 2 and 3 foot diameter trees cleanly snapped off about 2 feet from the ground. I noticed that the Church had a bit of roof damage and the parsonage looked affected, but I couldnt look too much I didnt need to be a factor in all that mess. I cant say the back of the church was ok, nor could I be sure that any of the surrounding houses were ok.
I still cant believe the distruction I saw. I thought the flooding of Irene was a horrific sight, now to add this. My prayers go out to anyone affected.
