Took the canister out and have the wrong bolt in the shift rod

My spyder stunk like gas since chicago and after reading that one started on fire with the rider on it I thought about what my leg would smell like seeing I CAN'T feel it. The gas smell is GONE and when I fix the shift issue I could tell you for sure if it runs better.

There is no top end difference but I did notice a shift issue if in 2nd and let the revs get low it would hesitate like it was thinking about going but I am not sure which problem it is related to.

the Other issue was that my shift bolt that SHOULD go thru the slot in the splines was not holding it in place and would slip off, happend twice on a short 100 mile run today before work. I know my engine has been out twice and maybe the bolt was switched out with just a stock one that is threaded all the way instead of one that is bigger center section. I had this happend once before and drove 25 miles home in 5th with 3 stop signs just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with a SE-5.

Not the same problem but similar in the fact that through major repairs on both mine and dltang's Spyders, some of the stock bolts were lost or misused (in the wrong places) when the Spyders were reassembled. ie. dltang now has a long and a short oil filter cover screw. :gaah:

RT-S se, my shift lever fell off going from Cleveland to N Canton Ohio. It was hanging by the actuator rod with the pinch bolt still in it. Pinch bolt was tight, either they used the wrong bolt or it wasn't installed right. Just another one of those "things" that has happened to me. Good thing my daughter lived there as we were on the road traveling. Borrowed tools from the son-in-law to fix it after driving it home to his house thru some stop signs and lights in 5th gear.

I had to drill out the threads and put a bigger diameter bolt in with a lockwasher and locktite, shifts great no more problems. will see how it holds up.
