• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Took my first real ride yesterday.

It was fairly nice here yesterday (in the 50's) so I decided that even though I only had my permit, I would ride my 2013 RT Ltd about 10 miles to our community theater's play rehearsal for a show we're presenting in May. I live in the country and the traffic is real light and I rarely, if ever, see any LEO's around so I though I'd take a chance. ;) Besides, I wanted to check to make sure the dealer had replaced the ball joints (they did), I needed gas and I also wanted to wash the Spyder since it had gotten pretty dirty after riding in the spitting rain we had here last Saturday.
This was my first time on the road riding the Spyder. I'm still getting used to where all the controls are but Wow, did I have a big smile on my face! I found out that if you keep a light grip on the handle bars, the Spyder almost drives itself! I have no problems with the RT darting around at all. It's very stable on the road. The road I was traveling on is fairly bumping and the Spyder handled the bumps with ease!

When I went back home after rehearsal, the temperature had dropped about 10 degrees so the ride back home was a bit brisk. I had a problem with my helmet fogging up, even though I've got a PinLoc system and I could feel a pretty good cold breeze around my neck. Another thing I noticed is that not all the buttons on the handle bar are lit up. I had to find the turn signal and the switch to turn the brights on by feel. I'll have to get used to that. Other than that, with the TourMaster Transition 3 jacket, my First Gear HT Overpants and the Spyder's heated grips :2thumbs:, I stayed warm and the ride back was fine.

I'm taking the two wheel MSF course in two weeks from today. I had called the registration desk to verify the dates of the class and I asked the lady if it would be possible if I could use my Spyder when we learn how to drive around. She said that as long as I had proof of insurance (which I do), the answer was yes, I could use my Spyder. Of course we'll have to wait and see if the instructors are ok with this. I'll find out in a couple of weeks!!

We took the 2 wheel course last summer on the hottest nights . Nice thing about those are the instructors get to know how you ride.. Remember if you take the license with your Spyder it will only be good on 3 wheels not 2. Any time you are in Story county , stop in Nevada ... Allie

That is great that they will let you take the course on your Spyder. You definitely want to learn to reach all of the controls by touch and don't forget about the horn.

Enjoy and ride safe.

Great..!!

No need to make excuses we all take the long way home through the woods and plains. This will only get better. Don't know your regulations but you can drive with a permit here... Glad your out and about..

Indiana Rules

In Indiana, you can ride with the permit with a helmet, without passengers,a dn in the daytime only. And, if you take your MC endorsement test with any three wheeler, your endorsement is only good for 3 wheelers.

I'm guessing you have the same rules in your state as Canada that with a permit you can only drive in daylight... Glad the Smokey's didn't ruin your fun... I know what you mean that big smile on the first drive as have had mine 2 weeks  and been now on 3 rides.

Guess when you finish the course that will allow night driving... You know it's nice that as I am 56 and driven the spyder as my first motorcycle that the thrill of a new TOY can bring... Enjoy all the rides you can get to

Yea, Iowa has the rule that if you take your motorcycle test using a 3 wheeler, you can only drive a 3 wheeler. That's ok, because I'm too old, and not really interested in riding a 2 wheeler. I'm afraid that I wouldn't be able to hold it up, especially with an artificial hip and a bad knee. The Spyder is much easier for me to ride and I feel a lot safer on it.
