It was fairly nice here yesterday (in the 50's) so I decided that even though I only had my permit, I would ride my 2013 RT Ltd about 10 miles to our community theater's play rehearsal for a show we're presenting in May. I live in the country and the traffic is real light and I rarely, if ever, see any LEO's around so I though I'd take a chance.
Besides, I wanted to check to make sure the dealer had replaced the ball joints (they did), I needed gas and I also wanted to wash the Spyder since it had gotten pretty dirty after riding in the spitting rain we had here last Saturday.
This was my first time on the road riding the Spyder. I'm still getting used to where all the controls are but Wow, did I have a big smile on my face! I found out that if you keep a light grip on the handle bars, the Spyder almost drives itself! I have no problems with the RT darting around at all. It's very stable on the road. The road I was traveling on is fairly bumping and the Spyder handled the bumps with ease!
When I went back home after rehearsal, the temperature had dropped about 10 degrees so the ride back home was a bit brisk. I had a problem with my helmet fogging up, even though I've got a PinLoc system and I could feel a pretty good cold breeze around my neck. Another thing I noticed is that not all the buttons on the handle bar are lit up. I had to find the turn signal and the switch to turn the brights on by feel. I'll have to get used to that. Other than that, with the TourMaster Transition 3 jacket, my First Gear HT Overpants and the Spyder's heated grips :2thumbs:, I stayed warm and the ride back was fine.
I'm taking the two wheel MSF course in two weeks from today. I had called the registration desk to verify the dates of the class and I asked the lady if it would be possible if I could use my Spyder when we learn how to drive around. She said that as long as I had proof of insurance (which I do), the answer was yes, I could use my Spyder. Of course we'll have to wait and see if the instructors are ok with this. I'll find out in a couple of weeks!!
