• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

To Ride or not to Ride

Went for a ride today with the wife. Went about 60 miles with one stop for about an hour. We were heading to our next destination and we had a problem. The dreaded Limp Mode. This is my first. We were able to Limp about 1/4 mile and pulled over. I shut the bike off and looked at the owners manual. Wife went to the restroom and I turned the bike back on and everything looked good. Made it to our next destination and at about 40 mph. Was there for an hour and came home,20 miles at 65 mph no trouble. Do I continue to ride or what is the next step? Is there something I can do or is this a dealer situation?

2010 RTS
22,000 miles

Thanks
James

Sometimes the computer just cops an attitude and a reboot can fix it. I would do some close to home riding, and put some more miles on it. If it does not come back, you are probably okay.

You did not have your foot touching or on the brake pedal? That is one thing that will do it. I am an expert on this subject. :roflblack::roflblack:

I would do as was just mentioned... however many times it is found that the rider's are causing some of these problems by doing things the Spyder doesn't like us to do.

Just in case you haven't; read the link in my signature for new Spyder owners. It lists a lot of information gleaned from the brilliance and experience of many Spyder owners previous to you.

Of course... if the problem persists... see your dealer.

My 2010 done it one time in the two years I've owned it. I was 2000 miles from Home though!!!! I panicked and my wife was cool about it. We were leaving after filling up at a station. I pulled over, we had just pulled out from the station, my mind was racing (I'm sure you know the feeling). I remembered on the forum where you turn the key on and off 3 or 4 times to reset. Did that and everything was good. at the motel that night I posted my problem on spyderlovers and to make a long story short, continued on our vacation ended up in Colorodo, Kansas, Olk. and Ark. before returning home to tennessee. The spyder had 4 thousand miles on it then and going on 16000 now. Never happened again.
As said in other post, sometimes the computer just needs to reboot or something. Start it and check to see if you have any active codes. With it running push the Mode, Set and turn signal button at the same time and if there is an active code it will be on the display.

Has doing that been confirmed enough that I should add that to the Do's and Do Not's list for new owners? Would like to do so if that has been the experience of several owners... or at least enough that it is worth trying.

Let me know if you would... and thanks!

I'm thinking it might be a good idea to make a short mention of it. Emphasize that the computer itself is consistent, but all the sensors and connections required to feed it are very complex, and occasionally need to be reset from scratch again when they fail to click just right the first time. Research: isn't there something like a 5 minute quick-restart feature? If true, mention that the key needs to be turned off for more than this interval, since the objective is to force a cold restart of the entire system. Doing it 3-4 times isn't necessary if done right the first time, and understanding this would reduce confusion about what is being accomplished.

If you can condense all this into a couple or three sentences, it might help a lot of people and reduce repetitive questions here.

Others may have more suggestions... :dontknow:
