To Corbin or not to Corbin...

We really like the look of the Corbin seat with the spider web stitching and heated option, but I've heard mixed reviews. If I'm looking at 1K+ for seat and backrest it had better feel as good as it looks. The person that I talked with didn't like the Corbin for the sport models of the Spyder because the passenger part of the seat seemed to cause them to slide forward.

I have an RTS and it doesn't look like it slants forward on that model of the Corbin. Anyone that has or has had this seat on an RTS, please give me your opinions either way.

I'll do better than that. You can check out my Corbin if (IF) we can see the RT on Saturday. ;)

I do like mine a lot. It is firm but comfortable.

We're going to follow SpyderLady and co. down on Saturday. I'm looking forward to meeting my new MoGang family!:2thumbs:

Corbins are too hard for me...downright painful, even after well broken in. Everybody is different. If you can't find a way to try out the brand you're interested in, be prepared for the possibility of having to buy several seats, with the associated expense.

Scotty, what are you sportin' on your 2011 RTS? I'm fine with the stock seat for a little while, but it's not really comfy after a while, then again I don't know of any cycle seat that I've had over the years that was worth a hoot for any long distance.

Sounds great Kevin. Looking forward to meeting you.
Can't wait until Saturday!

I have had Corbin seats on both the 2008 GS and 2010 RTS. Over 40,000 miles on the two seats.

Scotty is right--Corbins are not plush feeling--they are more supportive than anything else. IMO: they take about 500 miles to get broken in. I have had the drivers back rest on both my seats--that keeps the passenger from sliding forward. The seats can be slippery if you put the wrong preservative (armor all is one) on it.

I am currently using an AirHawk pad on mine for longer trips--but I have some hip and back issues that are getting worse. I am hoping I don't have to give up ryding altogether.

OEM seats on both my 2010 and my 2011. Nancy's RS has the BRP Comfort Seat, but I preferred the OEM seat. I have owned cycles with Corbins, and I hated every one. I sat on Lamont's RT/Corbin at the Chicago Owners Event and it literally hurt! I just don't have a Corbin butt. I had to use an AirHawk or sheepskin on my delaminated seat on my 2010 after a few hours. I have not had to supplement my seat on the 2011 at all, with up to 14 hours a day in the saddle and a couple of weeks on the road. The Spyder seat beats my BMW hands down, and is the most comfortable OEM seat I have ever owned...but that's just me. The best seat I ever owned was a Russell Day-Long. They are built to fit, more or less. I'd do another in a heartbeat if I needed one. Similar seats are available from Rick Mayer, but I have never owned one...just sat in them.

Lots of people fit the Corbins, and love them. I'm just not one of them. Like I said, every person is different. If you have a chance to sit on somebody's aftermarket seat, take it. You are the best judge of what will work for you. A seat is a lot of money to purchase blindly.

:agree: And Ultimate is developing (or has developed?) an offering for RTs as well... There's lots of options available; the trick comes in finding the right one!

By the way Scotty, you're the only one that has ever sat on my RT that didn't love the seat. nojoke

I agree seats are a personal thing and I've had Corbins that I hated and Corbins that I loved. I love the Corbin "Lamonster Cut" on my RT and RS. It helps the handling too by locking you in the seat instead of rolling around on top of it. I really notice that whenever I ride a Spyder with a stock seat.

:roflblack: Everyone here knows that I am an oddball! :roflblack:

I actually think your Lamonster cut is part of my problem. Dished seats seem to always disagree with my anatomy. Possibly a result of having no natural padding of my own to fill the dish. ;) Seats are a tough subject...some like them firm and others like them soft, some dished and some saddle-like, some slippery and some with grip, some wide and some narrow. They are one of the most difficult accessories to choose. Even more so when you can't spend a day at the factory and have it cut to fit, like you did.

Well, you have all given me what I was looking for... wait until SpyderFest and try em out. I have no buyer's remorse with my Spyder purchase, but I could have it after dropping $1200 on a seat that I hate. Since 'it ain't broke, I won't fix it', thanks for the input everyone

or if Scotty needs an "arse" supplement; I've got more than enough for a couple of folks! :roflblack: :opps:

I'm in a similar situation....2011 RS and after a couple of hours in the saddle it feels like I'm riding a phone pole. My bum is kinda shinny...I'm 5'9 and 150# so I don't have that much "insulation".
I've looked into the Corbin modular and the Ultimate one piece unit...prices are comparable but Ultimate uses vinyl only.
I don't know much about these materials but the best saddles I've had were leather...the best one was on my Sabre 65.
Please, comments on materials would be a great aid.
Right now I'm leaning toward the Corbin.

I, too, have no issues with the stock seat and find it fairly comfortable. I know plenty of folks who have a Corbin and love it, but personally, I would find a local shop who could upgrade the cushion in my existing seat for what I'm sure would be a lot less money.

I have used Corbin's with much satisfaction. At first it is like a horse saddle, but then after about 1000 miles it shapes to you and IMHO is very comfortable, very firm but comfortable. You might look at Diamond, I have also had these seats and they are similar to Corbin. On my wing he installed a 1/2 in of NASA foam over the top of his pad and it was great. I also had Mark at Diamond build me a seat from my own seat pan on a Versy's and it was great too. Both of these seats have very dense foam which is important to distribute your weight in order to relieve any hot spots, pressure points. Most any soft seat isn't very good for the long ride they just do not relieve the pressure points, creating soreness, numbness...

Thanks for your input, Chazz. The seat isn't a big issue right now, but I'm trying to look ahead at where my kid's inheritance is being spent. I really liked the look of Lamont's custom cut... and still do, but most of my riding is to and from work in nice weather with nightly rides after work/weekends for me and Joanie. I have 3 years before I can retire, so maybe I'll just tough this one out for a few years and go nuts on the next one. ")

kevin you seem good at setting up group buys. How about a group buy on a corbin seat / backrest. I would sign up if you can get a discount. Just an idea.
