There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To Brake or Not To Brake....

Would you like BRP to include a front brake lever?

no need for me, but if so many of you want it, approach ISCI and get a volume discount. since you have already figured out the cost is $150.00 they should sell it to you for that. :roflblack:

No, ISCI won't be $150, those will be the cheap Taiwanese ones I'll be sourcing. ;)

We need another poll.. how much will you pay for a handbrake kit.

Kind of funny this is almost as divisive as a helmet thread. Or Dem v GOP .. ironically red/blue are the colors on the voting results.

Too soon? :roflblack:
You can add OIL brand and which octane fuel to this list... :yikes:

Big difference between a few dozen orders from an aftermarket company and thousands of off the shelf uints installed on the production line.

I'll stick with my cable operated setup that cost me about $30.00 plus some labor. Not as good as the ISCI unit, for sure, but cost effective and does a decent job.

So are you offering your kit for $30? Or was it $150? :roflblack:

I don't have a kit to offer. I wouldn't want to pay the liablity insurance to market the system I have (which would jack the price WAY up I'm sure). And I had some of the components already which reduced the cost as well.

Just not something I want to get into.

The republican brake lever would go on the right and the democratic brake lever on the left. ;) (just kidding)

If my memory serves me correctly, (it does not always) on a motor vehicle equipped with a hydraulic braking system must be equipped with a parking brake system that operates completely independent of the hydraulic system. That is according to FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard)

If so, why do motorcycles with hydraulic brakes not have parking brakes?

The only safe way to use highway pegs with this machine is to have a front brake lever. By the time you have to get from the pegs to the foot brake in an emergency stop it could be too late!! No excuse to not have a front brake lever on these machines. Also, if something breaks on the foot brake pedal you have another option of stopping. It's a no brainer.

Hence the reason BRP does not sell highway pegs. And here we go... and without highway pegs your feet are not in front of the air vent, so no hot feet. Makes perfect sense to me...

I've never seen a 2 wheeled mc with a parking brake. It probably applies only to 3 wheels or more.

On 2 wheels.. it's called leaving it in gear

I'm a new Spyder owner with 1,100 miles on now. When I took my test ride at the dealer I was reaching for the hand lever, and continued to look for a hand lever for maybe the next 500 miles. Lately I never even think about it anymore, I'm fine with just the foot brake.

Learning curve

Part of my learning curve many miles ago was no longer having a brake to grab a big handful of front brake(coming from linked brakes on a Wing) Really like the Pyder brakes, seamless ABS,and smooth stops. Oh, as far as th parking brake, the Morphous and other scooters have them. Oh,just as a cool feature, the new BMW scooter engages a parking brake with deployment of the side stand. Back now to the brake thread.

Wrong but end up being right

My memory was in error. The section of FMVSS I was thinking of refers to passenger vehicles and light trucks. Motorcycles and snowmobiles are excluded from that section. Under the motorcycle section of the standard it has it's own requirement for brakes. Motorcycles are not required to have a parking brake except for three wheeled motorcycles.

I've got highway pegs and I never get hot feet. I'm still puzzled by this, but so many people complain I can't question it, other than I have never experienced it.

But try doing 1,000 miles (or even 500 miles) with your feet in the same position for the sole reason that you must access the brake peddle...

Having highway pegs and being able to stretch out a little really adds enjoyment and distance to your ride. But as has been stated, no hand brake, no highway pegs.

Having no hand brake adds limitations, having a hand brake (which no one is obligated to use) simply adds a number of options.

I like options.... :ohyea:

:yikes:I agree with this statement. certainly a FUTURE BRP lawsuit in the works, besides I have a bad habit of resting my foot away from brake peg(toe tips on pegs).

brake lever on the bars

well in my case right now i have no parking brake cable "&%$^&% dealer" for the last month after they lost mine and have yet to get me a replacement it would be nice to be able to hold the bike stopped as you mount and dis mount and place the wheel chock around the tires

Since the beginning the numbers haven't changed much.

About 60% For
About 34% Against
About 6% aren't sure

I don't really know what I expected when I started the poll but an interesting exercise.

Thank you for your participation!

I would be interesting to know how many of that 34% against have ever had handbrake experience prior to the Spyder ?????? I'm guessing at least half of them haven't and have no clue what they are missing. Fear of the unknown comes to mind........(No offense intended)

I have had the fear of the unknown syndrome myself when I was first introduced to the Spyder with the SE transmission. I thought the SE was a stupid idea and also thought it would be nothing but problems, so I bought the manual instead.

Long story short.......after learning about it and driving one, my next Spyder will be a SE. And if this 34% crowd had the opportunity to ride and get used to a Spyder with a handbrake option, this number would greatly reduce .
