Going to put new tires on my 2012 rts. The two I am looking at are Bridgestone Potenza re92 175/65r14 and General Altimax hp 185/60/14. I think the altimax may have better grip.

Had the Altimax on my '12 and loved them... Great contact and control. Go for it:ohyea:

Hi Grayfox. You may not get too many responses from the regulars here on your post because topics like tires, belt tension and a few others have been discussed over and over again with many threads if you were to do a search on here. In any event, I don't mind putting in my two cents if I can help you out. I have a 2015 Spyder RT Limited that takes different tires sizes than your 2012, but I can tell you from what I have read on here and in my own research elsewhere, the Bridgestone Potenzas seem to be good tires to replace the Kendas in front, and the General Altimax have been chosen by a few others as well. What I would personally suggest to you, is that you do not stray from your original tire size when replacing tires, because some of the safety features incorporated into these bikes are speed dependent, and as you can appreciate, if you get a bigger or smaller tire than your original size, its circumference may result in an incorrect speed reading which may throw off the measuring of the speed by the nanny (computer) to affect things like the ABS brakes, etc. Also, another thing to note and pay attention to is that tires are labelled with a rating, such as, for example "95V", which is indicated after the tire size imprinted on the tire. Have a look at this number as it is important in telling you the speed rating and load carrying capacity of the tire. Here is a link that provides info on to how to interpret these numbers : http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=35 .
On my 2015 Spyder RT Limited, I had to replace the rear tire already, because the Kendas are known to not give good tire mileage as they balloon out when hot and wear the center treads down to the wear bars more quickly than regular car tires. In any event, I went with the Toyo Proxes 4 because I was able to get one in my stock rear tire size 225/50R15. So far so good, I got it installed and balanced by a BRP dealer and had a belt tension adjustment and laser front end alignment done at the same time (which I would recommend you do too). I have since had the machine up to 100 mph (briefly and safely for a moment) and felt no tire vibrations, and minimal belt vibration(which is inherent on these machines) on the way up from their installation job. I will probably report on this tire here as I put more mileage on it. In the meantime, good luck with your choice of tires and safe riding! :spyder2:

General Altimax RT 43 tires

HI,

I am also running the General Altimax RT 43 tire on the rear of my spyder, I have no complaints either. I have a 2014RTS SE-6. Deanna

165 & 175 width

Need new tires for my 2011 RTs. I see a lot of information on the two different widths.
Is my ride capable of using the 175s ???

Thanks,

I believe that they'll fit with no problems.
But I'm curious as to why you want to go to a non-standard size? :dontknow:

I'm running the 185 is on my 2012 they are a little bit wider and little bit harder to put on to the studs but they work great I would suggest stay with the 165

Are you still using a "65" profile tire, or did you change to something lower in order to stay closer to the OEM overall diameter? :dontknow:

New Tires Installed over the Weekend

Morning everyone,

After a lot a research here and advise from several of you, (& Thank YOU All for everything) I now have a new set of fronts installed.
Went to Firestone on Saturday and worked with the Service Writer to get everything going. After some confusion on what I was asking and bring him around to think about this like a standard car tire we found the following:

Firestone FR710 Tire: P175/64R14 81T - 65,000 Mileage Warranty

Wheel fits great, ride is smooth, sound is quiet, went on a 48 mile ride with them hitting the freeway, train tracks, back roads and yes several stops and starts.

Feeling very good about my choice and adding another choice out there for review,

John....
