Tires

I just had my front tires replaced at 7000 miles due to wear on inside of tires. They should have gone atleast 10-12000 miles I think.

Stock rear replaced at 10.5k... with about 5 burnouts on them.

Fronts have 12.k... and I can definitely get them to 20k+

As altonk said, it is highly variable. :D

I had to replace my rear tire at 12K, and now am replacing my fronts at 14K. The inside of my right front has no tread on it at all at this point. The dealer is also going to check the alignment when they put the new tires on. This set will also get Ride-On without any wheel weights, so I will get to see if that makes a difference as well.

I have 14thousand + on all 3 tires, looks like I'll get 5 more on the rear,

Front ?? they look like they'll go another 10.

Had to rotate the fronts at 7K due to uneven wear and expect to replace them at 14K.

Rear shows almost no wear at 8K (even after a nice long burnout in front of three police officers on Dickson St. during the Bikes, Blues & BBQ Parade of Power!)

13.8 k on the rear, but should have replaced it sooner. 15k on the front and still going with no end in sight. My fronts were wearing on the inside, so I rotated them when I replaced the rear. Looking good, so far.

At 7,000 my fronts seem to be wearing a little more on the inside.
How do you rotate them??? :dontknow: One side to other or take off rim and reverse?:dontknow:

They are directional, so they have to be taken off rim and swapped side to side.

You are the exception to the rule... Somebody else got 20k out of the rear, but it seems most only get about 8-12k on average. That rear is fun, because it seems to wear out faster the more miles are on it. It was amazing how fast I chewed through that rear tire from 7k to 10.5k. I run with a mix of no load to fully loaded saddle bags, and most of my miles are loaded down with bags with my fat rear weighing in at 245 pounds.

Doc got 60k out of his first fronts... I think most are averaging out about 25k to 35k on them. I've got the inside wear happening too ( As 99% of spyders seem to have ), so I'll be rotating them at the 12k service... Maybe that will get me to 30k on them.

Tire wear is so subjective. Roads are very different from geography/climates. We all weigh differently from one another, some of us do heavy touring loaded down with saddle bags and trailers, and some of us tow trailers. Some of us are harder on the throttle, with the occasional burnouts and some of us aren't. Some of us use engine braking all the time, and some of us never. I would even suggest that those of us with tall touring shields are affecting tire wear slightly due to differences in down force from the shields themselves. We all run slightly different psi in our tires as well.

I would say that if you are getting 20k out of a rear tire then YOU ARE RIDING YOUR SPYDER WRONG! :roflblack:

If the new tire comes into the dealer as expected, I'll replace the rear tire and do the 9,000 mile service on my RT on Saturday. I was hoping I'd get more mileage out of it but the center is worn out. We are 2-up 99% of the time but I don't ride very aggressively and I've done one burnout just to see if I could. I'm gonna put a stock tire on this time but I'll probably go with an automotive tire next time. I'll have to order an automotive tire, nobody stocks that size locally. I needed a rear right now for an upcoming trip so I didn't have time to wait.

Over 17K on mine, the fronts started wearing on the inside edge of the tread when I set the front shocks at the highest point, rear will probably need replaced by December.

Can anyone tell me the average wear of tires (or mileage) before replacing them? :dontknow:
I just finished putting 18K on my RT. It is in the shop now waiting for the DPS (been 1 week) and I need a new rear tire. The center of the tire was warn pretty much bald. The sides still had quite a bit of tread. I have been running 23lbs in the rear tire and it looks like that is over-inflated. The front tires are still OK. I guess I'll get 20k out of them. My rear brakes needed replaced at about 14k. There, too, the fronts are OK.

Thanks to all of the replies. I now have a good idea on where/what to look for and when to replace. I truly love this website. Go Spyder Lovers! :2thumbs:
