Tires rated worst and best. Two tires commonly used on Spyder's are noted

I was pleased to see that the Vredestien tires rated well but I don't think that is the most important reason why I think they work so well on the Spyders. The ones I run are directional with a very aggressive V pattern to the tread. In wet conditions water has a channel to flow to the outside of the tire, as opposed to a parallel tread pattern, where water gets trapped under the tire. Mine came with directional tires, but crappy ones, so why put non-directional ones on it? We got 1 less tire on the road surface so hydroplaning is even a greater concern over driving a car. Try as I can, I still get wet!

While some inferences can be made from this review. Neither the Kumho or the Vredestein versions reviewed are tires that come in sizes that fit the Spyder. You always have to be aware of the apples to oranges aspect. While construction quality, and to a lesser degree tread mileage, are important. There is more to a tire than these 2 aspects. Especially with the Spyder and its tendency to hydroplane the rear wheel.

If a company makes low cost tire that is noted to use questionable materials and construction. One might be concerned about their other low cost offerings.

Excellent post. Interesting from both a bike and cage point. Had to check the tires I'm running on my Mustang and Buick. Tires on my convertible did not make the list. My Buick tires did. Michelin Defender was the top rated tire. Mine are 6 years old and, to my untrained eye, show zero wear. Had to have a tire shop replace a TPS last month and the shop guy said they were excellent tires. Gives me credibility about this review. Thanks for posting..... Jim

Agreed. Poor quality may well span the entire line. Though this is not necessarily true.

I've never been a fan of the Kumho that we sold for the Spyder. Because there are better options out there. But some customers want the OEM sized tire and that narrows things down a great deal.

Maybe on a full sized (weighted) vehicle it might not be up to the task. But it was a decent tire on the Spyder. I never saw one show signs of failure when mounted to a Spyder. There probably wasn't enough stress for the shortcomings, if they existed, to show up. What I did not like about the Kumho was how they got slick in cooler weather, and when the tread started to wear. Still, customers were happy with them.

It is a moot point now since that Kumho 225/50/15 tire is no longer manufactured. Quality tires that fit the Spyder in the original size are just about extinct.

"Quality tires that fit the Spyder in the original size are just about extinct."

Another reason why I do not want the latest gen Spyder RT with less tire clearance to front fenders.
