Tires For RTs only

clueless

New member
Just wondering what Tire options are there for the RT currently. I heard that there are options for the rear tire but the front no one makes an EXACT same sized tire except the OEM one.

also what mileage are you guys with the higher mileage RTs getting before changing out tires?

The RT and RS use the same sizes so here's my suggestion and with this you'll have the same tire at all three points. :D

so Yokahama makes the exact size for front and rear for the RT Spyder (aka also same size for RS Spyder)

Looks like the model tire is AVS ES100 Yokahama. how do they hold up? performance? Price?

Looks like the front tires you have are 185/60 R14 and not 185/65 R14. that means they are lower profile in the front.

Rear 225/50 R15 is stock

I think tirerack has some Bridgestones that are 165/65/14. I know there are some other tires in that size also. Just google the tire size and I'm sure you will find some.

yeah but i think only the Yakahama look to be Ultra High performance summer tires.

dont think i want to run all season high performance on the Spyder.

I replaced the rear tire on my base RT at 9050 miles and it was completely worn out. Replaced it this time with the OEM tire but I will probably go with something else the next time. I don't ride really aggressively but we usually ride 2-up so the weight makes a difference. I was hoping for a bit better tire wear but that's more than I usually got on the rear of my BMW so I can't complain.

After 14,000+ miles on the RT, we're getting close to facing the reality of replacing the rear, so I'm keeping an eye on this thread.... really appreciate everybody's input.....

My Spyder still looks like this. So it will be a little bit before I can give you an update. :D

Woah!! Nekkid Spyder... I guess that I'm going to have to start watching these tire threads... Somebody mentioned that the fronts will get a short of tread on the inside edges, but a better replacement tire cures that issue...

You have to look closely to find the actual wear bars on the stock tires. There are a number of nubs that appear to be wear bars, but as someone mentioned on another thread, the "real" bars are inline with the small triangles on the tire side. When you locate these, you'll realize that you have many more miles of riding before you need to think about replacement.:2thumbs::ohyea:

Hey... that tire comparison site is way too cool! :2thumbs: Now i'm gonna start on my truck's tires... :shemademe_smilie:

A curb took out my so soft stock tires, so I researched here and bought car tires. Makes the handling "feel" of the bike better. They are easier to turn, I guess due to harder compound, but still no slide fears. 185/60R14

Which brand of tire did you get? And model?

Bridgestone.

No clearance issues other than turning the small plastic wire holders to face away from tire. I tend to like tirerack.com for all my tires.

Gargoyle I think I am going the Yokahamas when I change out tires... just woried about having to change out front or rears (which ever wears out faster) first and leaving OEM tire on the other tires.

I assume the front tires wear out first? or rear?

anyway, ultra Summer has to perform better then ultra All Season as they have to compromise for winter conditions. I just dont see riding the spyder in anywhere near winter conditions. they salt roads here so even if the weather is nice I do not ride my bike until the first good rain to wash away the salt off the roads.... so Ultra Summer seems like a good match.

Do you have any clearance issues at all with the wider front tire?

the one Gargole is using is the same WIDTH as OEM front just the sidewall is lower profile so the diameter is smaller. actually will help with handling as you have a lower sidewall for increased stiffness and it will lower the bike (not much in this case) but it should not hurt anything.

Thanks.... I think I'll be going to General Altimax 185/60 for the front when it's time to change. We have those tires on my wife's Infiniti G35 and like em a lot. Even considering putting one on the back of my Vulcan.

Actually, the 185/60 is taller and wider than stock. The stock tire sidewall is 107.25mm and the 185/60 is 111mm. So, the difference in height from the center out is 3.75mm (only 0.15 inches).
