Tires...again!

I also replaced with a Kumho Ecsta which I bought at a local dealer. It has about 6,000 miles on it and looks like it is gonna outlast the OEM tire. No complaints whatsoever with the Kumho.

It is an automobile tire and is the same size as the OEM. Spyder tires are not motorcycle tires. It is a roadster not a motorcycle! I got 12,000 out of the OEM and I've got 11,000 on the new Kumho and it isn't showing any wear at all.

The Kumho Ecsta is a much higher rated tire that the oem, and the revs per mile are almost exactly the same. Might last forever????:yikes:

Well said, my friend! I barely got 11K out of the OEM tire and, like you, I've got over 11K on the Kumho and it hardly shows any wear. I bought mine through TireBuyer.com for under $70 - FEDX'ed free of charge within three days!!! Both my wife's RT-AC and my RT-S have the Kuhmo ASTs on the back end and we're very, very happy with them.

Yokohama EVS ES100, same size as stock for the rear and 185/60-14 for the fronts. There are a couple of other choices for the fronts in this size but I wanted to keep them all the same. Go here for more info http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odel=AVS+ES100

They were $355.50 to my front door. I think I'm going to be the first to mount them up at all three points.
Took this from MR Orange hope he doesn't mind. This is what I'm going to go with.

Not forever but they last longer than the stock tires. dltang is on her second Kumho Ecsta tire and will probably need to replace it again next summer. I just put my second Kumho on my Spyder this spring and my first one had good tread on it until around 15 or 16,000 miles (though I continued to ride it til it had 19,000 miles) while my first stock tire only lasted about 10,000 miles.

I have 15,000 miles on the front tires and they need to be replaced. The rear still good. The front tires show wear on the inside of the tire, more on the left than the right. Is this an alignment issue or just the life expectancy of the Kenda tire? I’m inclined to use a different tire as some other members have, but not sure if the problem was related to alignment and not to the tires. Any advice?

RE: Tires

Are you running the Kumho at stock (for factory) air pressure?
What air pressures are other rear tire replacements being run at?

It would be nice if BRP came out with a chart of tires they recommend since it seems obvious that many are using non-Kenda with good service. ;)

I doubt if BRP would ever do this. Since they are the sole provider of Kenda tires for the Spyder I don't think they would suggest other tires since it would dig into their "cash cow".

Another Choice

G Force Sport by B.F. Goodrich. Bought it at tire Kingdom 14,600 miles ago. Still going strong. Like it very much, great in the rain! Should last at least 25-30k miles. :2thumbs:

I feel the uneven tire wear is an alignment issue, but your dealer may not agree. An alignment, and setting the front spring preload high enough for the rider/cargo load and your style of riding, can help immensely in most cases.

I also have the Kumho Ecsta and ride 2 up 90% of the time and would also like to know what pressure is a good starting point?:helpsmilie:
