Tires....a.g.a.i.n

KENDA'S

hey Dan I had replied to a post on here a while back about motorcycle tires vs car tires. The end result was that I was ATTACKED and I mean ATTACKED for saying it was not right to mount car tires to a spyder. Like others have said these tires that come on a spyder are designed specifically for this bike. People always complain about the price of tires, I payed 35grand for my 2011rt ltd. Paying 200 dollars for a tire is nothing it comes down for me as what is my life worth, sure I can put a 70 dollar tire on but really all there is between you and the road is a few square inches and I want the best money can buy. I just got a 2014 grand cherokke ltd with a Hemi and it goes like hell, I ordered aftermarket wheels with Yokohama tires 450 a piece just for rubber.....I will feel safe going down the road. Oh and by the way I did get an apology, it was a private apology sent to me but I still am pissed about what was said lol. Sorry to invade your thread I would like to know if anyone switched back to factory tires as well.

Sorry but I'm confused, if Kenda's are so GREAT why didn't you put them on your HEMI ......Kenda makes auto tires also ........................................................................I'd tell you why but you probably wouldn't understand.......Good Luck, Mike

In my opinion (mind you; a buck fifty, and my opinion will get you a cup of coffee), since the Spyder uses flat tires, motorcycle tires are round, so the only reason for car tires is cost savings. Car tires are hard rubber, and motorcycle are soft to hold the turn better. Thus the car tires last longer.

That really depends on the tire and how you ride. That stock rear balloons at highways speeds and wears fast in the middle. Car tires have more plys and don't balloon as much if all. The Toyo car tire I have on the rear I expect to last a little bit longer than the stock Kenda and it holds the road wet or dry far better than the Kenda... So the Toyo is a safer tire in my book.

I need to replace the crap kenda rear tire on my 2014 RTS that only has 6700 miles on it. What brand and size is everyone using?

I have been using the Toyo Proxes 4 which have been discontinued. I love that tire so much I just bought the last 3 that I could find in a warehouse...There are some new ones on eBay that I found as well.

STIFFER SIDEWALLS ! ! ! ???????

Dan! i successfully ran car tires on my 2012 RT with the 14" fronts, after problems getting a "round" Kenda that would balance and not be out of rouund! However my new 2014 with the 15" tires has been a different story. After the dealer replaced 2 out of round 15" kendas, I went on the hunt for a suitable 15" car tire 165/55R15. The only thing available is the Federal EVO 595. The tires fit ok; however their rating is "V" (150 mph), giving them a very stiff sidewall and a very hard ride. Now I'm considering trying another set of the factory Kendas, for lack of anything else. I think they would be fine, if I can just get a set that are not "out of round" and balance ok. The 14" car tires on the 2012 and earlier are all rated "T" or "H" (118mph or 130 mph" and have a much softer sidewall than the new Federal 15" tire, and the ride and handing was ok on my 2012. Can't take the "very hard" ride of the new Federal, so back to the factory Kenda's for now, or until we have another choice of 15' TIRE SIZE (Maybe from Arachnid) before long. JMHO
:banghead::banghead:

.......The difference in the stiffness of the sidewalls of the "V"----"T'-----& "H" rated tires is so small I would challenge anyone in a "blind test " to consistently be able to tell the difference......KENDA'S are two ply sidewalls and almost all car tires are four ply regardless of the speed rating. What gives a "V" rated tire a higher speed rating has many more factors than a stiffer sidewall.......When I was DRAG racing at Spyderfest I think my REAR tire was 12.5 lbs pressure, and guess what, it didn't fall off the rim :yikes: :roflblack:. Before you go out and spend a small fortune on MORE NEW TIRES .......lower your air pressure by 5 to 8 lbs. and see what happens..............JMHO,......Mike

we put a kumho car tire on the rear of our bike last spring and notice a huge improvement in how bike handled...about 2 weeks ago we put bridgestones car tires on the front and bike was instantly a whole new machine ... the ride improved, steering is easier..and have no problems with traction..have been in the rain several times... it simply rides and handles better with car tires..

MIKE do you have some kind of HATE ON FOR ME OR WHAT!!!!!! you in fact are one of the Asses who attacked me on that thread I was talking about. Do you think that because in a Canadian I WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND. WHAT is with you attacking me. You sound like a real winner I bet your pround of yourself for making a comment like that. Maybe you should learn a bit of respect and mind your own fing business. I don't have a problem with the Kendas like you people do....and I have always run the same tire on my trucks or suv's. I guess I"M NOT AS SMART AS YOU...Maybe I need to read more. You truly are an IGNORANT human.

MC Tires

I had to replace my the Kuhmo tire before the trip to Spyderfest. My dealership, who installed the Kuhmo tire for me 17,000 miles ago, tried to order, through their distributors the Kuhmo and then the Falken tires. They were not available, so, since I needed a tire now, I had them put on the Kendra OEM tire. I did not have time to go find a car tire, somewhere out in the interweb and send it to me or to them, if I wanted to make Spyderfest. I got my bike back late Saturday afternoon, the dealership is closed on Sunday and Monday. Tuesday morning we were were on our way to Missouri. So.... If I had my choice, I would have put the Falken tire this time.

Now with 2,168 views and over 50 posts....
only two people installed MC tires after they had car tires...and BOTH of them were forced into it because they couldn't obtain the car tires when they needed them!

Wow...I never would have thought that there would be this much customer satisfaction from car tires....I really didn't. I thought that most of the discussion of one versus the other was kind of an academic exercise--safety versus cost--Boy, was I ever wrong! The level of customer satisfaction speaks for itself!

Mr. spyderrock (your spelling), this is a family friendly site and the use of the above type of language is frowned upon :(:(:(. Also if you consider what I said to be an attack on you .....well you are mis-taken. Because if I had attacked you LaMont would have spanked me something awful :gaah: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack:. IMHO Kenda tires are the poorest excuse for wasting precious resources and this is not just my opinion......Can you name someone of well-known, & better than average driving skills who would actually choose a KENDA over say a Michelin, Pirelli, Yokohama, etc. &and don't name Danica Patrick she's a paid spokes-person............................................... And Yes I am a real WINNER .....got 1 st place in stock RSS class and 3 rd overall at the 2014 Spyderfest drag race's.     :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: , Mike  PS...You should also make an effort to get your facts straight before you shoot your mouth off....you posted about being attacked on 5-4-14 I didn't read your post or comment until 5-11-14......and anyone who doubts this statement can check back thru and see for themselves ! ! !:agree:

I don't have a dog in this fight. Don't know what was said, or to whom. Don't know either of you. Mike is an ok guy. Helped me out without being asked. nojoke I also know that Lamont won't stand for any :cus:. This is an awesome site, and resource for Spyders. If you have a problem with someone, take it to pm's. Tom :trike:

I'll continue to watch this thread, it's results are interesting to say the least. Wither you agree or not, there is a lot to be learned here. The only problem I see for me personally is a shortage of good, brand name car tires in the 2014's sizes and can you get your dealer to mount them. Based on my experiments with tire pressure in the stock tires, I think the Spyder would benefit from the slightly stiffer sidewall of a car tire. :dontknow:

My question is: Do all motorcycle shops, and/or tire shops have the abilty (maybe not willingness) to mount tires on the Spyder's wheels (I would take the wheels in to the shop myself), or is there something unique to the Spyder's wheels that limits mounting to Can Am shops?

SPYDER WHEELS

My question is: Do all motorcycle shops, and/or tire shops have the abilty (maybe not willingness) to mount tires on the Spyder's wheels (I would take the wheels in to the shop myself), or is there something unique to the Spyder's wheels that limits mounting to Can Am shops?

I'll answer You and sddinnh with this.........I've personally had quite a few Auto tires mounted on various Spyder wheels /rims. All have been done at retail auto centers on their normal auto wheel mounting equipment and then balanced on a high speed spin balancer with excellent results. None of the equipment used was some oddball one-off type of machine .....just the normal " every shop has them type ". The Spyder FRONT wheels are no different than the everyday auto wheel and poses no problem for any ( even ) in-competant installer. If you want to go though the hassle and EXPENSE of taking them to your dealer go ahead, But I'd rather spend that money on GASOLINE  :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.........Hope this explains this once and for all .......Mike
