• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

TIPPING IN CANADIAN RESTAURANTS?

TIPPING

like the wait staff in Florida restaurants say: "What is the difference between a Canadians and a canoes...? ans: canoes tip."

I hate Canadians. I don't ever tip anyone from the "North". They use funny looking money, their gas is not in gallons and worse of all they are friendly. Never trust any society were people use extremist phrases such as "hello" "how may I help you" "do you need anything". In the US we express ourselves like normal people, we act rude and entitled......you know like normal people.

The starting point for us is 20% no matter what country we travel to. Actually, I don't ever remember giving less, but there are times we give more. I'm not sure why it would make any difference based on the country you are in.

Going slightly off track after seeing this comment - you don't tip in New Zealand, well not if you're local. Up to 5 or 10 years ago if you tried to tip you'd probably end up with a very confused member of staff chasing you down the street trying to give you it back. However with more a more foreign tourists here we are finally getting the idea that some people want to tip and so some places have started leaving a tip jar near the till (you go up to pay here rather than getting a bill bought to your table, another difference). Most New Zealanders also don't carry cash and pay for everything using cards, even things like a cup of coffee.

Now that is funny. Best post I have seen in awhile.

I always put the tip on my credit or debit card. I usually don't carry cash, and it bugs my gf. There are many countries we've been to that include a tip with your total bill, and it's usually only 10%; we just add to it.

Gratuity Tips in Canada

What is the standard practice for tipping in Canadian restaurants?

Tips in restaurants is a normal practice. 15% is a norm, if you received good and friendly service. 20% if you received exceptional and highly attentive service.
CAUTION ... look at your bill VERY carefully. There will be a total for food and beverages, and then amounts for taxes, especially GST (VAT in overseas countries). Figure your tip based on the food and beverage sub-total ONLY ... NOT on the grand total!

That's another difference as normally there's no option to add a tip to the bill when using a credit card here either. Funny enough I came across a tip option for the first time here about 4 weeks ago down in a place near Queenstown, the guy behind the till just told me to ignore it:-)
