Time For New Tires!

I took my RT to the dealer yesterday and left it to have a new set of tires put on the bike. I have a
little over 15,500 miles on the tires/bike. The back tire could have gone a few more miles but the fronts were worn so much I could feel it when was riding. $495.00 for 3 new tires, installed. How did I do for mileage on the tires and what do you think about the price? :dontknow:

I replaced my original three with the same OEMs at 13,000 miles. New rear brake and WV State inspection. Total was $505.

If your front tires are gone after 15,000, you probably should go to a laser alignment dealer and get a front end alignment.

Quality performance car tires @ 3 + mount and balance = $ 325 at most.......Mike

So so..!!

rear tire did well but fronts not so good. Usually you get two rears to one front. You might do some checking in the front end. Wear patterns can tell you a lot. Alignment, over or under inflated or something else..price is what I hear for oem dealer installed...

More like 3 to 1 in my experience. 30,000 on my fronts and still lots of tread left. Third rear also has lots of good miles left; will replace all 3 next time around, prob next spring.

Car tires

I suggest you do some research on this site on tires. I think you have an alignment problem, and also you will be much better off going to car tires on all three tires. I made the switch and have been a happy camper. Your dealer should put the car tires on and you furnish the tires. If not, you can find a shop that will.

How would you describe that sensation?
17,000 on my fronts, and in an aggressive situation, I could feel the front end start to want to slide a bit... :yikes:
Kind of a small series of "stutters" when the cornering got interesting...
It never seemed to move off the chosen line, but it was an attention-getter! nojoke

IN TOTAL AGREEMENT ....PLUS THIS

...Also on the installation thing.....Many Spyder owners don't realize that any shop that can mount CAR tires can mount and high speed balance SPYDER FRONT whee & tire.......the Spyder front wheel is very similar to a Honda in shape and off-set and the machines can do those without any problems.....The rear tire/wheel can be done at most MTC shop that does tires....they have the special equipement for our hubs......Mike

I'm nowhere near ready for tires yet; but when I am....................I plan to do something very similar (except for the laser alignment) to this. The OEM tires are too pricey; though if my Can Am dealership is competitive on mounting and balancing (and they're willing to do tires I bought elsewhere) I'd have them at least to the M & B.

At an average Dealer charge of $100 + an hour labor .........I don't think so.......just sayin.....Good Luck , Mike

Don't feel bad. On my 2008 GS models I would get, on average, 7,300 miles per rear tire and that was with Kumho or Maxxis, the OEM Kendas didn't quite make it as long. Fronts were good to like 22,000 miles. But now with this new ST-S that has NO adjustable pre-load my rear tire is bald down the middle at 2,700 miles. This is what happens to the two-ply cheapie tire at high speeds, and I am only running 25-26 pounds in it. This one will get the Toyo Proxxes put on soon so I can compare with the Kumho and Maxxis (which was my fave so far of the bunch). Do a search for tires here on Spyderlovers and you will find a wealth of knowledge and information over the years on what has been tried and what kind of mileage has been normal, but driving style does effect it greatly.

I have replaced several sets of tires. The average (for me) seems to be 20-23K for the front tires and 15K for the rear tires. Im on my third rear on the 2010 and my second set of fronts.

Not a mechanic, so I have to let the dealer do his thing. They will NOT install non-Spyder tires. The labor (IMO) is a bit on the hefty side.

My dealer in Miami installed the car tires that I furnished with no problem.

The OEM tires are less half the price of those on my BMW RT, and last over twice as long. Can't compare these costs or the tire life to car tires.
