After hibernating most of the winter it appears i've out grown my gear so With the great riding season quickly aproaching its time for me to get some new riding gear. Gloves and Jacket. What are your recomendations i'm wanting to stick with Textile as it seems to breath better than leather and its a bit more comfortable.

Just bought wife a nice set of Power Trip Black Widow armored jacket with matching lepard cuff gloves for V-Day .... nice closeout price.

Full weight or mesh? Short or touring length. There are lots of choices. For touring length full jacket, I wear a FirstGear Kilimanjaro. Best textile jacket I ever had, but they have changed the design again, and I don't like the K IV as well. Wife has a new Tourmaster Transition jacket that is a peach. I would try one of those next time around. I love the hi-visibility jackets like the Olympia, but their armor rubs me the wrong way. You need to try a few on. A good bike shop will have a selection. Places that sell touring bikes like BMW and Goldwings have the most full jackets. For shorties (sport-length) there is an even bigger selection. Almost any bike shop has a rack full. Look for a good venting system, and convenient pockets, as well as comfort. Zip-in liners extend the temperature range.

For mesh, we both wear the FirstGear sport length jackets. You can review the last post on that subject here. http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8818 For pants, both Tourmaster and FirstGear (and others) make either heavy or mesh overpants. Much more convenient than regular pants. Full length leg zippers let you step right into them, even with your boots on.

Thanks for the response.

I'm thinking Full Weight since i want 1 jacket that can be used all year long. The Can Am Textile jacket i have now is great for this but its a bit small now and i don't want to pay 300$ for the Can Am logo when i can get a Tourmaster or another brand for half that. What is the difference between short and touring length?

The only place here that has a selection of gear is Harley (only harley logo'd items) or Cycle Gear who i refuse to go to after my last dealings with them. So i'm pretty much realying on the web for purchasing.

I know i'm looking at the tourmaster pants since they are the only company i have found that makes pants for the short and round lol

Sorry for the newbie questions here but i'm kind of new to the riding gear still since this is my first open air ride.

I have the Tourmaster Transition II and I love it. Its the longer length, the back goes down past my waist by about 4 - 6 inches. The short ones are waist length. The fit adjustability of that jacket is excellent. You can fine tune the fit for skinny arms, big arms, skinny waist, ummm... bigger waist, etc. Plus it has a ton of great venting for riding in the heat, a removable liner for riding in the cold and removable body armor. :2thumbs:

Check them out at Powersports4Less. Teacherbob runs the place and he gives SpyderLovers members an additional discount.

I was actually looking at this exact jacket. Yea Powersports4less is GREAT my fiancee just ordered a jacket from them Tuesday and she recieved it Wednesday and that was normal shipping i was amazed at how fast they shipped the product.

After searching and trying on different jackets I went with the Icon Motorhead Leather. I am really glad I made the choice. Its is awesome. Really comfortable and you can't even feel the fact that you are wearing armour. Most of the other jackets felt so bulky. It has a fully removable liner and the vents are in the perfect places. Got into the 60's this past weekend and I had them open, work great. Good luck!

What is the difference between short and touring length?
The short (sport) jackets come about to your waist. Usually slightly longer in back, to allow some bending foreward. The Tourmaster Transition is advertised as a 3/4 length, and comes several inches below the waist, with a flaired or straight bottom, instead of stopping at the waist band. Most other touring jackets, like the FirstGear Kilimanjaro come down even farther than the 3/4 length, and seem to flare at the bottom a bit more. On me that is pretty much to the bottom of my caboose. The touring type jacket usually have a belt or elastic at the waist (or both) to allow adjustment.

Thanks for everyones input and information. I have decided to go with the Tourmaster Transition II I placed my order a few min ago. Hopefully It will be as good as the Can Am Jacket i'm currently using.

I'm pretty sure you'll be satisfied with the Tourmaster jacket. When you decide you want riding pants, the Tourmaster Caliber pants are great. They work very well the the Transition II jacket.

Have you gotten the jacket yet? If so, how do you like it?

Yup powersports4less is awsome i recieved it the next day!!!! Well i like most of it. The main thing i don't like is the way the vents work. You have to velcro the flaps to itself to keep it open and then the back vent doesn't have this option so it tends to baloon up a little. But this could have been caused by the 30+MPH wind gusts we were having the one day i got to try it lol.

I will say with the liner out of the jacket it seems cooler than my Can Am Caliber jacket does without the liner so that is a definate plus. I do like how its a little bit longer than the old one and the armor is actually comfortable and not annoying like in some of the jackets i tried on.

Yea, I guess if I had to come up with a negative for that jacket, its the amount of velcro on it. It can be annoying at times but I've found that I generally set it up for venting and leave it that way for the whole summer and most of the fall. Then I close everything up and leave it that way until its consistantly in the mid 70's.

I wanted to put in a plug for PowerSports4less, too....teacherbob is one of the Spyderlovers members and really works to give you a great price. Last week I ordered another Power Trip Stilletto mesh jacket (I can dream that warm weather is on its way) and he matched the cheapest price found on ANY site on the web PLUS did free shipping for another Spyderlover so the jacket actually was $9.00 less than any other place it was shown on the web. I would say that if you're ordering through the internet, you ought to consider throwing some business his way.

Oh, you ain't seen nothing yet. The FirstGear Kilimanjaro, especially the earlier editions, have so much velcro it is incredible. Takes both hands to open the vent flaps. My friends have taken to calling it the Kilamanwithvelco jacket. :yikes:
