There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. time for coolant replacement

engine ice or super cool water wetter? i am guessing either of these products will be better than brp 50/50?
i have not replaced the coolant in 18k and i think it's time. spyder is running hot for no reason here and there...
does water/vinegar solution to flush first actually work?
thank you in advance.

In your climate, you may be able to get away with this. We can't up north because we lose too much of our protection against freezing. Also, be sure that the material you use protects against corrosion as well as the original coolant. Otherwise, you must use an anti-freeze and "water-wetter" combination.

both engine ice and water wetter claims to have excellent corrosion resistant. i don't know about freezing protection but 55 degree is freezing COLD here so.:D
i am suspecting i may have partially clogged cooling system.

Thermostat,??:dontknow:

Thermostat,??:dontknow:

if thermostat was malfunctioning, fan would not come on, right?
when spyder is running hot i looked down and fan is coming on after 5 bars as it should. come to think of it, if thermostat is malfunctioning could that cause water pump to not run when it should or is water pump running all the time?

my spyder would run cool, even cooling itself to 4 bars standing still in 100 degree weather than it would go up to 7 bars at next red light?:dontknow:

Fan would[will] come on, the water pump will still run all the time.
Some times a faulty thermostat will stick then open then close again.
Until it fails completely. Just a thought:dontknow:
P/S Also check your radiator cap make sure it's tight!

I think the fan kicks on depending on what the gauge says-_not the thermostat. Almost all of those products recommend adding it to an existing mix of 50/50. In 100 dg sitting still mine would never stAy at four bars.

Could this have anything to do with your recent engine mods??

The thermostat opens with water temp, [wax pellet in thermostat] Also when the water reaches a predetermined temp the fan turns on.

I don't have my shop manual with me as I'm at cedar point waiting in lines all day----- but I thought the thermostat was 100% mechanical whereas the temp guage is digital and controls the fan??? I thought the fan came on after 5 bars

If using Engine Ice is anything like using it on the Rotax 800, I wouldn't recommend it. Numerous engine failures due to not getting all the BRP coolant out of the V-Twin.

went by the dealership and they are suspecting thermostat as fan is coming on it when it should but spyder's thermostat is inline so they have to drain the coolant before they can replace it and not even sure how they would test it but it looks like i am getting a new thermostat and also a coolant change on brp since it is part of the job of replacing thermostat so i will be putting off engine ice till another 12000 miles.
oh and brp's gotta new fan with shroud around the fan to make it more efficient so dealer is going to install that also.

True.

so if a thermostat is malfunctioning and stays closed, will that stop the flow of the coolant? spyder's thermostat is incased in a plastic y-connector and coolant runs thru it. if this is the case, i think my spyder in fact does have a bad thermostat.

That's correct...although it might just open part way, and slow the flow of coolant.. They can also fail open, so the engine doesn't warm up well in cold weather. The thermostat's job is to stop the flow of coolant through the radiator until the engine reaches its normal operating temperature

Thank you. It all makes sence. That's why my spyder was at 6 bars while I was moving at 50 mph Even with fan going and all the wind hitting the radiator, still could Not cool the spyder down because coolant was not circulating.:yikes:

I have been wondering about this cooling problem.

Are there different temperature range thermostats available for the Spyder.

I am sure that if the thermostat could open or close at a lower temperature then the fan would start earlier, thus cooling faster.

Changing coolant

I changed my coolant this week for my 2 year maintenance and I have 13,500 miles on my 2011 RSS and everything went well. The old coolant was clean and still good. I feel that I could have gone 25,000 and 4 years, sometimes I think BRP is just like us to spend our money on things that are not needed. Is BRP brake fluid a brown color? When my tech bled the brakes he save a some of the brake fluid for me to get tested, it was clear with no water or dirt and a brown color. The valve clearances were ok.

I used Engine Ice in a well-tinkered ATV engine.
Bored, different bumpstick, intake, exhaust and jetting changes...
With a properly operating cooling system, I had a fifteen degree temperature drop.

"Ice" is nice! :2thumbs:
