Tilting CanAm Spyder

I was enjoying a nice Macanudo Cigar today at my friends cigar shop, and we were discussing the CanAm Spyder. One guy told me he read an article somewhere that said that brp is coming out with a new Spyder model that will have the ability to TILT in turns. Has anybody else heard about this? If so, where did you read it?

If this is true, I think it would make an incredibly nice vehicle even better. What do you think? Do you know anything about this?

That would be cool but I'd really like them to stick a propeller on it so it can fly.

Hey, Derwin. Long time.

I hadn't heard that one but I would like to apply for the prototype Spyder with the 1500cc, supercharged, 255 HP Rotax that already exists in one of the Sea-Doos.

Hey Derwin, long time no hear from you! How's it going?

I think that your friend is confusing the Spyder with some other machine. Although I can see BRP adding to the existing model, even putting a larger more powerful motor in at some point, I don't think you will see a fundamental shift in the steering geometry. They are actually cutting back somewhat on development as well as laying a number of workers off, so it would not be realistic to expect something like this.

Personally, if I wanted a machine that leans, I would just buy another motorcycle. I like the Spyder the way it is.

Cheers,

Bruce

When I first decided I wanted to add a Spyder to our "wheels" collection, I mentioned to several people that the only thing I wished was different was that it would lean like the Piaggio. After having and riding the :spyder:for almost two months I can't imagine wanting it to lean. I love the way it handles and haven't found one riding situation that didn't make me smile. That's not to say that when a "leaner" comes out with a bigger motor than the 500cc Piaggio and that isn't a scooter body style that I won't be interested in taking a test ride.... but nothing's gonna take the place of the Spyder just the way it is for me.

Thanks, guys, for the fast replies! When he was telling me about the leaning CanAm Spyder, I thought it was kind of strange, and I even mentioned the Harley Davidson patent. But he was adamant about it being the CanAm Spyder.

Well, if you guys did not hear about it, then he probably just has it wrong.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

:agree: The Spyder is different (so is the Piaggio) but good different. I wouldn't want it to lean. The stability is very comforting under adverse conditions, even for an old two-wheeler like me. I have ridden the Piaggio, and it is neat, too. A delightfully stable low speed ride. More maneuverable than a Spyder, but certainly not a highway machine of the Spyder's caliber. All rides are fun, new, old, open, closed, 2 wheels, 3 wheels, or even 4 wheels, handlebars, or steering wheels, saddles, or seats. I like some better than others, but won't throw rocks at any of them. Too bad life is too short and money too thin to try them all.

I second to that...

Amen to that! I'm hoping to have my first "major" ride sometime next year. I'm saving to pay cash for the Spyder SE5. Heck, I should have had it a couple months ago, but just couldn't come up with the dough. I'm sure 2009 will be a better year for me, and I can't wait to get this thing.
