Throttle tough after 70mph

Dont know if its normal. Researched the forum but couldnt find anything on this. I find that the throttle is smooth up to about 70mph. At 70 and higher it get tough to rev the throttle to go faster. Not that Im traveling at 70 or more alot. I dont go into 5th gear until 65 or higher. Sometimes Im still in 4th when I hit 70. I read the do's and donts and follow it to the letter. Just feel like it gets tough to turn the throttle or it gets stiffer. just curious. Thanx in advance...

Don't know why,I've never had any problem with mine doing over 90(did not even know till I looked at speedo)looked like you have an RT so yours is electronoic, so it can't be a cable problem? Someone will chime in with an answer.

2008 GS/SM5. Never experienced that problem. Been up to the limiter a few times and country roads frequently above 85mph. Your torque curve should drop around 8k.

only us RS/GS folks are around. If your throttle twists freely in neutral all the way then it must be computer/module that is doing it. Seeing as we have cables it's hard to say. The manual clutch has a vacuum assist that works at low speeds. RT's have a lot of stuff on them this may be a safety feature to let you know your speeding...hope the RT's come along soon to help out..!! jmo...:thumbup:

2011 RTS

I have not had this problem. I think You need to have it checked out. I still have plenty of zip left at 70mph and just completed a 1400 mile ryde where most of my interstate driving was at 80 mph. Im just over 14000 miles.

No problem on either of our RTSs. We have a 2010 an a 2012. @ 80mph we still have plenty of throttle left. Don't know if there is a difference, but both of ours are SM5 trannies.

I have a 2013 RT Limited and have not noticed what you have described. I have not been on the bike for a couple of weeks due to travelling however I would recommend that you visit the dealer and discuss with the tech and see what they have to say. Once I am back to the bike I will confirm and post back.

I will be taking my 2011 RT in for it's 600 mile service today. It's all freeway to the dealer. I will see if I notice this at all.

I used to get the feeling that the bike would become pretty resistant to going faster above 70, when I had my stock 2010 windshield. The bike used to shake like crazy too and felt like it was losing power at spots. I even took it to the dealer and they found nothing wrong. Replaced the windshield and problem solved.

The throttle does stiffen up as you twist, so it just may be a combination of wind resistance and the fact the you're noticing the resistance of the spring as you twist it more. I use a wrist saver on mine to avoid having to twist as much. Just some ideas...

It could just be the throttle return spring getting itself all wound up...
Does it feel the same when the bike is shut off, and you just twist it then? :dontknow:

Could you have gotten some "Crud" caught down in around it that's causing some stiction?

Its fine all the way up to about 70... I checked it while it was off and it twists fine. Kinds feels like the bike has a don't know if I'm spelling it right but a governor... like they put on cars so they wont go faster than a certain speed. The bike doesn't hesitate or anything. It doesn't feel like its going to slow down or shut off... it just get harder to twist the throttle to go faster at about 70mph. Or maybe I just need to work out a little more. I'm gonna have the mechanic take a look at it. :dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:

OK just got back from service. My 2011 RT-S does not do what your talking about. I was easily able to put in more throttle at 70. It did not feel any different to me. I have the SM5 so maybe that is different in some way?
