• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Throttle Hesitation

This happens at any speed, but for example:

I am traveling at 70mph and I let completely off the throttle for just a second. When I get back on the throttle, there is a hesitation and a surge before the rpm's get back up. This is hard to explain, but hopefully you get the idea.

Any thoughts? if you need more info, ask away.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Do you have the JB?

At 70mph in fifth gear and you come off the throttle hard[chopped]
Then come back on full, you will get a hesitation. When you let off
the throttle, At that speed the RPMs drop quick. the hesitation is because
for a short while your in too high a gear for the lower RPMs.

2008 SM5 No performance mods. This happens in any gear. It's like a delayed reaction when I twist the throttle. Then the bike "wakes up" and accelerates. It will do it even when I cut back to half throttle, then accelerate.

Do you have all the updates? Updates correct some of the spuddering and hesitation. My yellow 08 SM5 had a slight hesitation before one of the updates installed last year. Ken krb1945

:agree:
I am pretty sure this is exactly the reason. Between 60 and 75mph I am usually downshifting to 4th. For good accelleration I like to keep the revs up over 5,000 rmp at least

It will do it going from 6500rpm to 5500 rpm. I have all the updates. I think my expectations may be unrealistic. I need to learn to back of the throttle in a more steady manner.

Or, better yet, Don't Slow Down! :2thumbs:

You might want to look into getting the juice box or now the newer version. I found crisper acceleration with the jb and with a better air filter...some here have taken the whole thing out and put in a separate air filter system, but even going to a green filter is gonna make a big difference...put on a juice box and you'll have a lot more pop when you hit the throttle...oh yeah, get a hindle or other more open pipe...

I did some testing on the ride home last night----- If you're in 5th gear @ 70 and let off the gas totally and then hammer it--- yer gonna have a hesitation as you drop to going too slow for 5th gear to be in its power range. Do it in 4th and all is good.

I don't even consider hitting 5th gear until 70mph or more.... many times I'm still in 3rd @ 70--------

I have the same problem but only when starting out in first gear. Not sure if its normal but not worried about it. Is this a throttle sensor issue?

 Impressive, whats your RPMs

:agree: That is around the shift point for me too. 70 (mph) I am shifting out of 3rd though, into fourth. I will sometimes cruise at a steady 70mph in 5th. (Almost like an overdrive). 70 in third is around 7000 rpm. (2008 SE)

Yup-- sounds about right-- just depends if I'm cruising nice and easy or not--- but more often NOT.
