• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Throttle Body Caput - Vidal Junction, Ca.

Jeriatric

Thinks out loud
Limped her into Parker, Az. (21 miles @ Top speed of 40 MPH - 3rd gear only) won't hold enough R's for 4th.

Funny part....no codes. Just the check engine light and Orange screen message.

FWIW Cruse will not work when the TB throws craps.

Am cosidering my options at the moment. Still determined to make it to Laughlin.

Never say die.

Is that the same symptoms when those vacuum hoses break?

I got preemptive and replaced my sides. One was dried and cracked but no holes yet.

Need to do mine this week.

Update

without error codes why are you certain it is a derided TB breakdown?

Well Roger, having never faced the problem, I suppose one could say I'm taking a WAG. :roflblack:

Here's what it is not. Vacum hoses, fouled plug(s), or a bad SP wire(s).

After a cool down period of around a hour and a half (in Parker)....water temp needle laying flat on cold, tho the engine was not. She fired off with not a sign of trouble. Have fueled in Needless (100 miles from Parker) , and she once again fired right off.

If you have an idea. As always...I'm open to hearing it.

On my way to Laughlin.

We ain't dead yet.....:roflblack:

In the absence of an appropriate fault code, it would be premature to point at the throttle body. The gauge vs. temperature problem indicates a sensor or wiring problem. That can affect engine operation and cause limp mode. Time to try to get to a dealer.

TPS

The throttle position sensor, common to all throttle body fuel injected motors can cause problems. It can get out of calibration or otherwise mess-up and cause problems. Not saying for sure that is what your problem is, but just that it could be.

Wild speculation won't resolve the problem. If the active codes don't show, the fault history needs to be looked at in BUDS. Guessing wildly or playing the law of averages is a waste of time...and money if a tech is involved or parts are replaced. There are a lot of possible causes, and the Spyder needs professional help. :D

Hey Roger, all I meant was the water temp gauge had dropped to the "C" for cold. Meaning the water temp had cooled.

★Speculation.

Is thinking out loud and is approved of in my posts.

People can choose whether they care to listen/read or not. Since this is my post. If you care to speculate. Do so. I have no problem with it. Really.

Spyder is doing fine for now and whatever it was will either repeat itself or it won't. Like I said...never say die.

Jer, sorry to hear you had an issue on the SRA-LA ride :(
I hope our PM talk about throttle bodies did not jinx you!
Maybe you got some bad gas on the way? No codes is odd.
I assume your riding home today since this is the last day of the planned ride?
I hope all goes well and I am waiting to hear from everyone!

Bob

A water temp sensor going to cold with cause it to go into open loop and cause the ECM to run rich. It could be as simple as the WT plug came off or a bad sensor.

Hey Bob,

No jinx and no repeat of the problem, was a great 3 days with some really nice folks. You guys missed out on a delicious Mexican food lunch too. Ha! nojoke :D

Too cool

Only went cold because the spyder was shut down for over an hour. :dontknow:

Seems to me, we can all learn from times like this. That is. If we don't allow ourselves to be Iintimidated into not sharing information. The cause will most likely -eventually- become apparent. Then we all learn. No one learns anything when they are spoon fed answers to problems. We learn through experiencing them, and sharing those experiences.

Enough said. :D

My WAG is "Operator Error"! :roflblack:

There is not a code for Jerbear-operation; so my guess cannot be discounted yet, since there is not proof I am wrong!:D

I certainly do hope it isn't something as simple as the brake sensor needing attention. Not sure how many miles on your machine, but if it is dirty, worn-out, or has developed some sort of slack causing it to send a signal of the brake being applied... it could cause this.

Remember... we are in WAG-mode here... since you said it was okay to do. I just thought I would lob-out a couple WAGs while the time passes.

All in all, I seriously hope you get this figured-out so you can get on your way and enjoy the ride... Good luck to you!

Throttle body failures seem to be the vogue part failure this past two weeks. Friend of ours barfed his Rt 2012 last week 16k miles

Were these TB's ever replaced previously?

I have a 2011 and had the TB replaced. Just want to know if I am facing another round of this problem.

Thanks...
