• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just curious how many RT owners have had issues with the throttlebodies, and how many are having them with the SE5, I ride a SM5 It seems only the SE5 ryders in my area are having the issue. Just curious.

Spyder RT-SE5 First Edition 2010 Timeless Black

Happen last summer at 17000 miles taking care by BRP under warranty. Now 20500 miles no more warranty. Everything fine.

2011 RTS-SE5 bought Aug 2011. At just less than 4,000 miles TB went bad. Never left me stranded, but would not start until multiple attempts (upwards of 10 or more tries) -- then would finally start and run fine.

TB was replaced via warranty and it runs better than it ever did since owning it.

I do not have a lot of mileage on it since the replacement... so cannot add much else to the situation. We'll just have to see; however, I think I know what the subtle-signs are to look for -- however, that is not a guarantee the problem would be discovered before it is too late.

I also had all the updates done in timely manner prior to failure; which was supposed to have prevented failure... however that did not work.

Overall though... I still like the Spyder despite its temperament.

2010 RT SM5 Throttle body was replaced under warranty at somewhere around 23,000 miles. I don't remember exactly and don't have ready access to my records right now. The problem never stranded me. I could reset the fault by turning the switch on and off 5 times. 26,750 miles now and absolutely no problems since replacing the throttle body and re-flashing the firmware.

Just bought a new 2012 Red RT-S last weekend. Illinois Boy you won't be the only Red RT in town anymore!

Dealer told me that with the new software and torque limits on the TB motor I should not see this problem. This TB issue was a big concern for me before the purchase.

Waiting on Throttle Bodie

Mine has sat at Cow Town for a week now , waiting on parts with no idea when when the love will come. She is a 2011 Sm. I came off of a Harley Ultra and at this time am thinking of going back.:banghead:

what are the signs of TB going bad? does it throw codes when it starts to go bad?

Hi clueless,
I have a 2011 SE5 with only 420 miles on it when I had trouble. My case was it kept dieing on me when I was stopped at a stop light or for road construction. The dealer replaced the TB and I haven't had any trouble yet.
Also, I had a problem with it accelerating during shift down. Turned out, 2 clutche plates were warped (???) and hanging up which caused it to accelerate as the engine reved up for shift down. Might be something to keep in mind.

TB Issues

I have a 2010 SE-5 RT-A, and had to have the TB replaced with less than 4000 miles on the bike. Thankfully covered by warranty

Had TB problems at the 1000 Mile mark. Replaced under warranty, and has been great every since

Mine is in the shop as we speak. Picking it up today and she is going to another shop next week. Dealer says "he cant duplicate the prob". This is the 4th time its been in the shop for codes.

2011 SE ....first last fall with several tho on speedo; second this year at about 13K. Shows the standard limp mode P1612.

I wonder if we'll ever find out what the cause is? Why is it mainly on the SE? Other than transmission, whats the diff between SE and manual RT? Why not ever, or hardly ever, on the RS?

Theres a lot of riders who don't participate on this forum so theres more failures than we know about.

I think it behoves BRP to put out a bulletin letting us know whats happening and what they're doing about it. This would allay a lot of our concerns.
